| Soap Opera Digest 5/21/2002 AMC Fans: Don't Overlook Brooke Back in 1994, AMC's Maria bested Brooke in a triangle with Edmund. Now that the presumed dead Maria's portrayer, ELC, is returning, fans of the recently reunited Brooke and Edmund are nervous that history will repeat itself--although the show won't say who she's playing. In an e-mail to Digest and show execs, D.P. from Huntsville, AL, pleaded: "Please tell me that you aren't going to bring Maria back to once again mess up Brooke and Edmund. She came between them before, and Brooke and Edmund made such a good couple. In another e-mail, A.C from New York City opined: "If handled correctly.. this development could signal the beginning of a wonderful story for Brooke English....In fact, Edmund could decide that Brooke is the one with whom he wants to be....I am concerned that Brooke will be sacrificed for the sake of the story." Message-board poster Little ASB suggested, "If Maria does come back...she should be with Tad." Julia Barr (Brooke) expects a juicy tale and notes, "John Callahan (Edmund) and I love working together, and we are both looking forward to a great storyline with whatever--or whomever---the couple's on- screen obstacles might be. I am so glad that the show is using the history of our characters...Using backstory and history is what makes good storytelling." As for the viewer hoopla, Barr shares, "The interest and support of the fans means they are truly invested in the story, and that is a wonderful compliment for all of us." |
