Three Men and a Baby

by Shannon
Setting:  Tempo Offices.

Edmund and Adam are waiting on Brooke.

Edmund:  What are you doing here?

Adam:  Brooke asked to see me.  It's a personal matter so don't let me keep you.

Edmund:  Well either Brooke made a mistake on her schedule or she wants to see us both.  (Brooke walks in looking very crisp and professional)

Brooke:  Thank you both for coming.  Please sit down.  I have an announcement to make and then some papers for both of you to sign.

Adam:  I'm not doing business with Edmund.  I thought that I was here about a personal matter.

Brooke:  Sometimes business and personal matters overlap.  Gentlemen, I am pregnant.

Edmund:  What?

Adam:  It's my baby of course.

Brooke:  (Laughing) Adam, your conceit never ceases to amaze me.  I don't know which of you is the father, and frankly it makes no difference.  This is MY baby.

Edmund:  Brooke, have you lost your mind?

Brooke:  No.  Well, yes I did temporarily, but I can assure you that I'm perfectly sane and I've found my backbone.  I can support this child and I have prior experience in being a single parent.  Which brings me to the point of this meeting.  I have papers for each of you to sign giving up all claims to the child that I'm carrying.

Adam:  I'm not signing a damn thing!  Nothing is more important than my children.

Brooke:  Did you hear a word that I'm saying?  The baby may be Edmund's.  Look, you are both involved with other women.  There is no need for this to disrupt your lives.

Edmund:  For once I agree with Adam.  I'm not signing the papers either.  Just how do you figure that this won't disrupt our lives?  This is a small town Brooke.  Do you think people won't notice that you're pregnant?  (Amy buzzes Brooke's office)

Amy:  Ms. English, Tad Martin is insisting that he see you.

Brooke:  Send him in.  My life is nuttier than a Christmas fruitcake.

Tad:  Honey, this is insane.

Brooke:  Of course it is.

Tad:  I have the solution if you'll just listen to me.  Let's get married.  I'll be the baby's father.  You don't need to do this by yourself.  This baby can help both of us ease the bitterness in our hearts.

Edmund and Adam simultaneously:  What!  Not him!

Brooke:  Wasn't there a movie called "Three Men and A Baby?"  I think the three men lived together and shared childcare responsibilities.  Now there is a solution, I hadn't thought of.  Goodnight gentlemen.  (Brooke walks out of the office)
