| Chapter Eighteen - Brooke Learns of Tad's Affair & Hides her Condition By Thanksgiving, Brooke knows she's pregnant. She spends the holiday with Opal and Jamie while Tad and Ted are supposedly hunting together in Canada. Dixie figures out that Ted wants to kill Tad, and rescues him. Tad and Dixie reconcile in Canada. When he tells Brooke about Dixie, she decides not to tell him about the pregnancy. After making several innuendoes about not coming out of the marriage empty-handed, Dixie does some snooping and discovers Brooke is with child. Dixie reveals to Tad that he's going to be a father again. Tad tells Edmund if he really thinks Brooke is the true love of his life, then he should try one more time to convince her of that. Edmund goes to Brooke and begs her to get back together. He loves Maria, but it doesn't come within a country mile of the love he feels for Brooke. Brooke, still concealing her pregnancy because of the problems Tad is causing with Jamie, along with the bruises she has from Tad's shenanigans, turns him down. She later has doubts and goes after Edmund, but he's on a New Year's Eve date with Maria. Unbeknownst to Edmund, she listens to him planning his future with Maria. Brooke decides to let him go so Edmund can be happy. Chapter Nineteen - Jamie's Custody Battle & Brooke's Ectopic Pregnancy Brooke and Tad go to court over Jamie's custody. Brooke lies on the witness stand claiming that the baby shes now carrying is Edmund's. Maria is in shock, but Edmund sets the record straight, which is part of the reason Brooke loses custody of Jamie. Brooke believes Tad is plotting against her, faking the test results of her ultrasound to make it appear that her pregnancy is ectopic, therefore, needing to terminate it. Brooke dreams of Laura, and fearing another child will be taken from her, she kidnaps Jamie. In complete denial, she's unaware that she's putting her life in danger. Tad finds Brooke and puts her under house arrest, but she still won't agree to the abortion. Tad seeks out Edmund, who is meeting Maria's parents for the first time at their engagement party. Edmund agrees to leave his dinner and talk to Brooke. During an incredibly emotional and healing discussion Edmund and Brooke truly figure out why things went wrong in their lives and thus, their relationship. Just as Edmund finally convinces her to have the abortion, her fallopian tube bursts and Brooke is rushed into surgery. Maria wants to take Edmund out for something to eat, but he refuses to leave, saying he promised Brooke he would be there when she came out. Maria is abundantly aware of the connection that Edmund and Brooke share. Many of the PV residents attend the wedding of Derek and Mimi. Edmund is there with Maria while Brooke attends alone. Mimi comes down the stairs in her wedding gown, carrying her baby. The look on Brooke's face says it all: she had just lost her baby, her marriage to Tad was over, and Edmund was with Maria. Edmund's heart goes out to Brooke; he leaves Maria without a backward glance and rushes to Brooke's side. After attempts at sympathy fail, Edmund looks at Brooke with a mischievous grin. He bets she has more ex-lovers and ex-husbands present than anyone else here. Brooke starts to giggle and replies that was tacky, but sometimes tacky is just what's called for. Sometime later Edmund looks around, and notices Maria is gone. She rushed out feeling jealous of Edmund's attention to Brooke. Edmund finds her outside and realizes that he has to let Brooke go if he is going to marry Maria. Chapter Twenty - Edmund Says Good-bye to Brooke & Marries Maria This is the final good-bye scene between Brooke and Edmund. On the mend, Edmund comes by Brooke's house to tell her that he can't be there for her anymore. Not like he has been in the past, they can only be friends. Brooke cries as she tells Edmund that she had her chances with him, she just never took them. Edmund asks her not to make this any harder - he'll always remember the times he, Brooke and Jamie shared in this little cottage. Written with utter sarcasm, Edmund finally commits himself to Maria, which is a good thing since he is set to marry her in about a week. He goes through with the wedding and becomes Maria's husband. But now the triangle is about to reemerge as Edmund and Brooke have taken their wedding vows and Maria/Maureen has no memory of her love for Edmund. |
