| TRANSCRIPT FROM MAY 3, 2002 Brooke goes on about poor Tad running all over Europe because of the way Dixie left him. Edmund: "He's pulling you in." Brooke: "Noo!" Edmund: "You know it doesn't surprise me that he would try it. What surprises me is that you're letting him do it." Brooke looks stunned. Brooke: Are you serious? Edmund: Last time it happened Tad came back; you thought he was dead. And then he found out that you'd had Jamie. Brooke: I was there. I remember. Edmund: You don't see a parallel between then and now? Brooke: Oh, Edmund, come on. This is completely different. Edmund: Tad was in love with Dixie, but he couldn't have her. So he turned to you. Brooke: Making me a perpetual afterthought. Thanks a bunch. ( She turns away and Edmund follows.) Edmund: No, he turned to you because you're incredibly warm and generous, and you were very forgiving. Brooke: Well, yeah, and according to you I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Edmund: I didn't say that. Brooke: No, you know what you're saying? You're saying that Tad can't have Dixie, and he's coming after me again. And I'm falling for it, is what you're saying. Edmund: Tad's miserable. You're happy. He can't stand it. Brooke: Edmund, come on. This is not Tad and me going back to the bad old days. This is Tad trying to reconnect with his son who needs his father. And right now Tad doesn't feel like he has enough to give to a goldfish. Edmund: Okay, that's part of it, but he also feels threatened, OK? And you feel sorry for him. Brooke: I'm just trying to do the best I can for my son and get him what he needs from his father and I'm just trying to do that any way I can. Edmund: Brooke do you remember the first time we fell in love? Brooke: [pause] Like it was yesterday. Edmund: And then Tad showed up. And he'd been having a rough time. [Edmund sits on the arm of the sofa. Brooke is still standing] And he was all alone. And you married him. Brooke: And you know why. Edmund: I know you stayed with him even after you found out he was cheating on you with Dixie. You couldn't leave him. Brooke: Is this stroll down memory lane leading somewhere? Edmund: I loved you Brooke. I wanted to marry you. But you just still...hung on. Brooke: Do you think...do you think that I'm doing that now, still? Do you? Edmund: Are you? Brooke: NO! Edmund: And if you had to do it all over? Brooke: Oh, my God! Edmund! I can't think that way. I can't. My God, if I had to redo half of the decisions I've ever made in my life... Edmund: All right, but we can damn well learn from our mistakes. Brooke: What, do you think I haven't? [silence] I... Do you really think that Tad is a threat to us? Edmund: That's exactly what I think. [Brooke sits down on the couch.] Brooke: I don't know what to say. [Edmund sits next to her. There is a lot of hand holding in this scene.] Edmund: I loved you. When you walked out on me.. Brooke: [almost crying] I didn't walk out on you. I did what I felt was best for Jamie. And I never stopped loving you Edmund, never. Edmund: I know that. Brooke: What is this all about? Edmund: When you...after you left, I met Maria. And we fell in love and we had a family and we were happy. But I never forgot you. Brooke: But we're together now. Edmund: I used to look at you..and I'd watch you, and it would hurt me because I thought it was unfair that I had so much.. Brooke: [kind of laughing] And that my life was such a mess? But that's over. Edmund: It was Tad's fault then. He broke your heart. Brooke: And I broke yours. But we survived, Edmund, and now we're ready to start over. Edmund: No, now we're at the part where Tad tore up your life the first time, and I'm not gonna let him do it again. |
