Topic:  Great Zimabwe

Activity Time:  1-2  class periods

Materials Needed
1.  pictures of Great Zimbabwe
2.  cardboard
3.  playdoh
4.  anything extra the children may think to add


Objectives:
As a result of this activity, the learner will:
identify pictures of ruins of Great Zimbabwe
understand what ruins are

Introduction:
1.  Explain that Zimbabwe is a very old place and that the
of houses left over from years and years ago are still there
but they are now ruins
2.  Explain that ruins are old structures that are left
over from history


Major Instructional Sequence:
1.  Show pictures of Great Zimbabwe and explain that we will make a model of Great Zimbabwe
2.  Explain that we will make our traditional houses again
3.  Explain that we need to put a wall around it to  make it look like the picture
4.  Distribute the clay and allow students to construct their Great Zimbabwe

Note:  if clay is short or time is short students can use the previously made houses and add walls to them

Closure or Evaluation
1.  Let pupils add their own ideas to their models
