"Max," he whispered.
"Yeah?" she replied, coming into view. She'd been working on his computers, not knowing that he'd been just behind the glass barrier. Logan felt like he couldn't breathe. He felt like when she was here, he didn't have too, because she kept him alive.
"Just for a second?" he pleaded, extending his hand.
"Logan," Max said softly. She bit her lip. "I-- I have to go." Not seconds later Max was gone, and Logan was left staring into empty space.
"Hey!" Max called to Original, walking into their apartment.
"She's not here," a voice said. Alec stood looking out the window, and turned to face Max. He smiled.
"What do you want?" Max asked dryly.
"Nothing, just thought I'd stop by, see what you were up too?" Alec said.
"I thought I told you I didn't want to see you," Max stated, scouting her fridge for some grub.
"You're, uh, outa milk," Alec said, smiling. Max rolled her eyes and slammed the door shut.
"Could you please just leave? I'm not having the best night, and you're not making it better," Max asked.
"Well, what's wrong? Maybe I can be helpful," Alec tried with what sounded like a sincere tone.
"Doubtful," Max said going into her room. Alec followed.
"Come on, let me at least try," Alec said, sitting on her bed. Max looked at him with surprise.
"Do you even know what it's like to look at someone, and know they need you to hold them and tell them that you still love them? That you want to be with them despite what they may think? To be so close to someone and not be able to even breathe on them?" Max yelled. Alec stared at her for a couple seconds. He looked like he wanted to tell her something, but couldn't.
"I'm sorry," he told her. "I'm sorry you had to save my life and sacrifice yours with Logan."
Max sighed, and sat on the bed Indian style. "It's all right," she whispered. "I'm just not in the best mood and your catching the height of it."
"Come on," Alec said. "I wanna show you something."
"Wow," Max muttered. "It beautiful."
"I know," Alec said, gazing at the Puget Sound. "I come here to think."
"Geez, Alec has a soft side," Max said sarcastically. She smiled.
"Are you surprised?" Alec asked, teasing her in return. She nodded and they both laughed.
"Seriously, thank you," Max said. "I needed this."
"Anything for you, X5-452," Alec told her.
