song of the sea

Listen...

Listen to the wind as it gusts along the sand.
Hear it dance among the rocks
And whisper along the shore.

Listen to the gulls as they circle overhead.
Hear them sing their lonely song
That echoes back from rugged shoals.

Listen to the waves as they shoulder in the tide.
Hear them rumble in the windy dawn
And crash upon the beach.

Listen to the whales as they whistle in the deep.
Hear them speak the language
That is lost to human tongues.

Listen to the surf as it thunders on the reefs.
Hear it roar in mighty majesty
And resound among the crags.

Listen to the skiffs as they whistle on their way.
Hear them whizz through currents
That take them out to sea.

Listen to the buoy as it tolls its mournful dirge.
Hear its chime upon the wind
And its song in the silent mist.

Listen to the lobstermen as they work in predawn chill.
Hear their rolling deep-voiced chant
And the splashing traps in the ocean.

Listen to the sea as it sings its timeless song.
Hear the mystic rhapsody
That beckons to us all.

Listen...
