| What To Do When Preparing To Leave |
| Think of ways in which you can increase your independence, such as open a savings account in only your name. Leave money, an extra set of keys, copies of important documents and extra clothes at the location you selected to go to if you need to leave, or with someone you can trust so you can leave quickly and safely if necessary. Determine who and what your resources are. Who will be able to loan you money if needed? What resources do you have to assist in your escape? Do you have a vehicle, and if so, will you have quick and easy access to it to make a quick getaway. Keep the shelter phone number close at hand and keep some change or a calling card on you at all times for emergency phone calls. Review your safety plans often in order to plan the safest and quickest way to leave the abuser. Remember: **Leaving your batterrer is the most dangerous time** |
