On a warm and sunny day in Chattanooga, TN, a young woman stood at the front door of a home with a service canister in her right hand. She rapped her knuckles against the door, then listened to the approaching sound of footsteps.

The footsteps belonged to a young girl named Mary. Running full throttle towards the front door, Mary shouted to her mom, "Someone's at the door!"

Her mom replied, "Don't open the door, I'm in the shower!"

Mary stopped in her tracks. She had to cure her ping of curiosity without opening the door. She walked towards the picture window and peeked through the blinds. She glanced at the visitor standing on the porch and shouted to her mom, "It's okay. It's just the bug lady."

The young woman with the canister was Ola M. Phipps. While servicing the community, she soon became known as the bug lady. When she ventured into her own exterminating business, she transposed the words of her nickname and Lady Bug Exterminating Company was born.
