Pet Store Puppies
Some of you may know that pet store puppies are from puppy mills.  For those of you that don't know I set this page asside to inform everyone.  My husband and I bought our Maltese, Fantasia, at a mall pet store in NY before we knew about the horrors of pet store puppies.  Pet store puppies come from puppy mills and puppy mills are bad.  The following links will help you in your research.

Fantasia came with "papers" and through further research of these papers I was horrafied to find that the puppy mill that she came from.  The USDA usually only does one inspection a year unless there is a complaint filed against the kennel.  This kennel was inspected 6 times in 2000 alone.  This kennel is very large and had over 200 dogs and puppies present at each inspection. 

If you have your dog's Pedigree it is easy to tell if you have a puppy mill dog or not.  A puppy mill will pretend they are a family wanting a puppy and wait for a repretable breeder to have a litter to sell them.  The puppy mill then takes this perfect puppy and breed it with not so perfect puppies.  They continue to breed this dog until it can not breed anymore.  So the pedigree will have one dog in red and all the rest in the family tree will be black.  That is because there was only one dog that was from prize winning parents.  Now on the other hand if you have an all red family tree then you most likley have a good dog.  I wish I had known this when we got Fantasia!  Not that we would love her any less.

I am so glad that we bought Fantasia because the pet store told us she was on hold for a woman who wanted to breed her.  No reputable breeder would breed a pet store puppy.  This woman was either a back yard breeder or a puppy mill.  If Fantasia had gone with her, she would have lived a sad, lonley and painfull life.  Fantasia has filled our lives with joy and we love her very much.  I would not trade her for anything in the world.  She is our baby.
