No Such Thing As "Perfect"
Real story based upon actual events

Have you ever thought you met that one special person you could see yourself with for the rest of your life; the one that seems so perfect that fate must be responsible for the love connection? Sometimes, your first assumptions are not always accurate, leaving you with an empty heart that was once overflowing with trust, affection, and compassion.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Both of us were at the store and from across the aisle, he caught my eye. Something told me I had to meet him. Something about him was so perfect. He was tall, athletic, had gorgeous eyes, sense of style, and had just the right air of confidence. This was everything I had dreamed of in a guy. I had to be brave and approach him and make a conversation. So that’s exactly what I did. We talked a while and I ended up giving him my number and that night he called. We talked for hours about everything under the sun, from his favorite color to my worst nightmare. How could he be so perfect and not have a girlfriend? We got along great and had so much in common.

I was on cloud nine when he finally asked me out on our first date. I thought I was the luckiest girl in the entire world. On our first date we decided to go to Chili’s. We were sitting there having an incredible time when his phone rang. Nervously he muttered, “Shae, I’ll be right back.” He left me sitting in a restaurant where it felt like 10,000 pairs of eyes were gazing at me. I thought it was strange but didn’t think too much of it. He came back and explained that it was his mom. How many moms actually call their son on a first date with a new potential girlfriend? Once again I was extremely puzzled.

We finished eating and decided to find something else to do. We left and I noticed there was this white Mustang following us. I was oblivious to what was going on. Maybe they were going to the same place we were, but wait, we were going to his house. I couldn’t help but think how exceptionally awkward this was. Every turn we made the other car would make too. Finally, after what felt like a roller coaster ride, we arrived at his house. We were about to get out when the door flies open and this girl starts shouting, “What the hell do you think you’re doing with my boyfriend?” So let me get this straight, not only did he lie to me, but he wasn’t everything I thought he was! Here I was, in his truck, caught in a situation I could have definitely avoided. I was scared out of my mind. This girl was huge, not only tall, but thick. She looked like a crazed character out of a comic book. I was so frightened by this beast that I wanted to escape her sight like a sprinter competing for the gold. Unfortunately, that was impossible to do considering she was blocking my only way out of the truck. Why did this have to happen to me? All I wanted to do was have fun and get to know this guy. Needless to say, after him lying to me, we still kept “talking.” It was probably one of the most stupid decisions I have made in a while. I don’t know why I still thought he was perfect after I saw how he was a cheater and a liar. Having one of those qualities is bad enough, but when a person can cheat and lie to someone they care about, shows they have no character whatsoever.

One Friday night, four friends and I decided to watch his football game. We had it planned out to the “T”. We were going to put on our cutest outfits and have our make-up perfect. I spent two hours getting ready for his game. Since I was his “new girl” I had to make a breath-taking first impression on everyone from his town (or at least try to). We piled into one of my friend’s SUV and made our way to Brownwood. Strutting our stuff, my friends and I held our heads high as we ambled into the game. His ex-girlfriend made sure to point me out of the group to inform everyone that I was the girl that ruined her relationship. It didn’t really bother me taking into consideration I had four other backups if anything did go wrong.

The next day, my friends and I decided to make a surprise visit to see him. Once I got into town, I called him. He didn’t answer. I got this dazzling idea to use my friend’s phone and text message him. He read it! NO way did he just ignore me! I wasn’t going to let him ruin the rest of my night with my friends. We could still have fun without having to be around him, right? My friend had this idea to make an appearance at the Brownwood-Abilene football game. It was jammed packed. We were walking around and guess who I saw! Yeah, that’s right, HIM. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t jumping to conclusions about what had just happened. I grabbed my phone and called him to see what the deal was. With my eye on him when I called, he pulled his phone out of his pocket, read his caller ID, and slipped it back into his pocket. OH MY GOSH! I know I wasn’t making accusations after all; he really did ignore me. I was furious. My friends convinced me I did not deserve to be treated like that. Any guy that has enough nerve to walk all over a girl, is not worth the time. This was it. I was not going to put up with it anymore. Finally, I had enough guts to tell him it was over. It was hard after I was so convinced he was perfect in spite of everything he had done to me.

Sometimes, no matter how much you want to make something work, you just can’t. It takes two people to make a relationship successful. One person cannot put in all the effort and expect it to work out. Without my friends, I would possibly still be dating that guy. “Once a cheater, always a cheater.”
