		LOVE IS . . .

        a bird's song
        a blade of grass
a book on a rainy day

        a baby's cry
        a budding tree
        a cheerful comment to say

        a fragrant flower
        a shining full moon
a gift of your time at play

        a positive note
        a prayer for no reason
a ray of sunshine, like mother's

        a loving heart
        a tall leafless tree
a mind's eye on lookout for others

        a new unseen moon
        a plea for assistance
        a pleasant comment to brothers

        a sign of affection
        a sliver of moon
        a smile at a drive-in, endurance

        a sound of delight
        a statement of hope
a steaming hot cuppa' to go

        a swaying palm
        a telephone call
a twinkling star that we know

        a wisp of a cloud
        a child's cry out loud
a wry look astray and a glow

        and such is love
        when we look deep within
and remember to look up to Him.

PROMISE YOURSELF

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only for the best and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others are you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

LIVE EACH DAY TO THE FULLEST

Yesterday's troubles are written in sand,
Brushed out of existence by God's own hand.
The things of the future our hearts may fear,
Can all be resolved when tomorrow is here . . .

Out of a lifetime, these hours alone,
The hours of TODAY are completely our own.
So as each sun is setting there's reason to say,
" thank you lord, for your gifts ... above all, for this day."

--Jean Kyler McManus

Should You Go First

Should you go first, and I remain
        To walk the road alone,
I'll live in memory's garden dear,
        With happy days we've known.

In spring, I'll wait for roses red,
        When fades the lilac blue;
In early fall, when brown leaves call,
I'll catch a glimpse of you.

Should you go first and I remain
        For battles to be fought,
Each thing you've touched along the way
        Will be a hallowed spot.

I'll hear your voice, I'll see your smile,
        Though blindly I may grope;
The memory of your helping hand
Will buoy me on with hope.

Should you go first and I remain
        To finish with the scroll,
No lengthening shadows shall creep in
To make this life seem drear.

        We've known so much happiness,
        We've had our cup of joy;
And memory is one gift of God
        That death cannot destroy.

Should you go first, and I remain,
One thing I'd have you do:
Walk slowly down that long, long path,
        For soon I'll follow you.

I'll want to know each step you take,
That I may walk the same,
For someday, down that long, long road,
You'll hear me call your name.

It Is Well With My Soul

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, though has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
let this blest assurance control,
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and hat shed his own blood for my sour.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

And, Lord, hast the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descent,
even so, it is well with my soul.

Refrain:

It is well ~ with my soul, ~ it is well, it is well with my soul.

Words: Horatio G. Spafford, 1983
Music: Philip P. Bliss, 1876

This is one of our all-time favorites,
To read the inspiring story behind it, go to:

A sermon, by Ray Trygstad,

4/13/97 in Naperville, IL

In that previous hymn's refrain, the tilde ( ~ ) stands for a musical rest.
This is an interesting segment from a piece written by John Ruskin:
.
He goes on to say those rests may be there, but let us not forget
that the rest is part of the making of the music."

A birthday card I received from an out of town friend reads:

"Imagine how extra wonderful *snowflakes* and
ladybugs and sailboats would seem if we could
enjoy them again for the first time.

Thanks, Irene!

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to rain slapping the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You'd better slow down,
don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when you ask "How are"? do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You'd better slow down,
don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste, not seen his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die,
'cause you never had time to call and say "hi".

You'd better slow down,
don't dance so fast,
time is short, the music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
it is like an unopened gift...thrown away.
Life is not a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before the song is over.
