15. Martin and his brothers, James and John
(descendants #16 and 17), are thought to be the three Honakers of the same name
who enlisted 13 Hul 1861 as privates in Co,G, 37th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A.,
at New Garden, Va. Martin was listed as deserted on a 1 May 1862 company muster
roll.
He married Catherine Elizabeth Hess (called
Betty). Born in 1826 in Virginia.
They lived on Clinch River near the mouth of Lewis Creek. The 1850 census merely lists them as living in
Russell Co., VA the 1870 census further defines the area of where they lived as
being in the New Garden Township, Russell Co., VA Although Martin died in 1898,
Elizabeth is listed in the 1900 census as living with her son, Lilburn, in New
garden District, Russell Co., Va. Children:

Infantry, listed as deserted as of 11 Oct 1862 on a company muster roll; but
was accounted for when he was issued clothing 3 Feb 1863. It is believed by
some researchers that James was killed in the Civil War. At this time, his
military records do not verify this belief.

Hezellaah Patrick and Rachel Dennison, circa 1878. Born 5 Sep 1861 in Virginia. In the 1880 census, they were living in the Elk
Garden District, Russell Co., Va. The 1910 census also lists them in Russell Co., Va.
