“A Vision of Things to Come?”

Light as a feather is how I begin

One pass over, not breaking the skin

It has to be harder, in attempting twice

Deeper still, when I make it thrice

In the shine of the metal, I see my reflection

The cause of it all, beyond recollection

The feelings, the temptings, the callings, the dreams

The smile on my face is not what it seems

I brush over blue, pale under my flesh

Sensations increasing the harder I press

I swipe it again, and watch as it leaves

A remnant trail of crimson beads

Just one more time and nothing will matter

No pain, no sorrow, no mind’s endless chatter

Tears stream as I dig, but unwilling to blink

Emotions are vacant as it spills down the sink

I can feel it now, I know it will cease

My being soon filled with an endless peace

But that moment is fleeting and in its place

A heart felt thundering, a relentless pace

The demons aren’t fleeing, the mind isn’t stilled

The anguish and trembling aren’t gone as I willed

Outside of myself, I watch all the while

As I slip lonely, pathetic, onto the tile

In the moments before I wake up screaming

Forcing away the subconscious dreaming

The body dying utters three words few…

THIS IS YOU
