Nice of you to stop by...

I have a number of interests, some of which I have narcissistically highlighted below.

  Medieval Studies

I am doing graduate work in history, with my primary area of interest Medieval Europe, particularly fifteenth century culture.

ORB: Online Reference Book for Medieval Studies and The Labyrinth If you are interested in researching the Middle Ages online, these are excellent places to start.

The International Congress on Medieval Studies University of Western Michigan. When you hear a medievalist refer to Kalamazoo or The 'Zoo, this is what they're talking about. I presented a paper on Spanish Adoptionism at the 37th Congress in 2002.

Proud member of the Medieval Society Texas Medieval Association.

Internet Medieval Sourcebook An extraordinary source for primary source documents translated into English and primarily designed for teaching uses. The site has expanded to include documents from throughout world history.

  Teaching

I am Social Studies and Honors English teacher and Debate Coach at a 3A rural high school in central Texas. I'm currently collecting links to helpful educational sites. I have a lot more than this… will try to get this page updated soon.

  Short Story Writing

I write Flash Fiction stories, which are about 500 words, more or less. It's the perfect writing style for an author with a short attention span and limited free time.

Flash Fiction Workshop This is where I learned how to write. I highly recommend it for all levels of writers.

"Close Enough for Jazz" Read one of my published stories.

  Historical Costuming

I'm still a novice seamstress, but I love beautiful costumes, and plan to do more work in this area soon.

I am currently constructing a new costume for myself consisting of a very simple kirtle and chemise designed for warm weather living history events. It will be very similar to the design shown here, from The History of Costume by Braun and Schneider.

The Costumer's Manifesto History of Western Costume page. This is a marvelous metasite for historical costumers.

 Education

My alma mater is St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, where I received bachelor degrees in English and history. I studied for my teaching credential at UTSA in San Antonio. I am on hiatus from graduate studies, but plan to attend Texas State University in San Marcos next year to finish my MEd in History, and hope to attend University of Texas in Austin for my PhD in Medieval Studies.

  Family

I have a wonderful husband and two delightfully exhausting sons, ages seven and four.

 Religion

I am fascinated with all matters of faith. I am a practicing Christian attending a non-denominational evangelical church, but perhaps I nudge a little closer to an ecumenical Unitarianism in my belief that we who profess any faith are ultimately seeking the same thing...
