| Ianus Eiriksson The Order of the Barnacle is awarded to the youth of the Barony who exhibit "talents and/or service of a level beyond their years" The illumination border was again inspired by Mistress Dairine; it is called "the oak and acorn border" The nutcracker-looking things in each corner are heraldic "barnacles"...a period horse-taming device (OW!) Draw your own conclusions as to why the youth earn THIS award! And, yes, I know now (though I didn`t at the time) that the Roman numeral for "Forty" is "XL"...but the text reads the same! |

| Stephanus Eiriksson I just LOVE the colored red and blue bar borders here--I think I`ll use them again! The left-side design is a variation of what was called the "spear and vine" border...period illumination abhorred a vacuum; therefore every available space on a manuscript page was decorated. Script--what I call "uncial", easy to do and appropriate for the son of a Norseman/Viking! |
