Lady Barbary Rose
"Ren faire" garb!
VERY first attempt at making my own Renaissance-type costume...

Saw this great hunter-green cotton brocade at the fabric store (OK, it was Hancock`s) in the remnants bin...had to have it!

I used a bodice pattern (McCall`s 4107) and added a skirt to it...AFTER I was all done, I found a pattern (Simplicity 4488) with the kind of sleeves (removable) that I wanted...so I added them on; they are tied at the shoulder with a set of 1/2" brass rings...
The peasant-style blouse is yellow linen; the splits in the sleeves are made of the same yellow linen, sewn in a fake poufs.
Entire edges of this dress are bordered with antique gold gimp trim (ebay) with pearls sewn on in the spaces.

Underskirt/forepart is a separate garment' gold cotton damask...gold belt is a thrift-store find, you can barely see the large pearl medallions (there are 4) across the back of the gown)

The gold-netty-thing on the neck of the dress form is my "hairnet"...gold embroidered net fabric sewn over a black felt lining...gives the appearance of more hair in the caul! Held on with combs...

The embroidered sweet bag/purse detail can be found
