I don't have any digital pictures of the kitchen as it was when we bought the house, but I have these which show it as it was being torn down.

In the opening you see below, from left to right, there was a doorway, a breakfast bar and the far right hole was a closet. We busted down the walls in true family tradition. We each took turns with a baseball bat. My youngest son even put on his football helmet and drove he head through the closet wall! We miss the closet space, but I love the extra kitchen space. Now we use the closet in my office around the corner.

The opening at the left side of the doorway was at one time an entrance to the basement. It was changed sometime before we bought the house and made into a pantry. The new basement entrance was relocated the the end of the hallway to the left.

We ended up removing the soffit to enable us to install taller cabinets.

A view into the Family/Great room.

Notice the new pantry where the old basement entrance used to be. The cabinets were odered from Home Depot and are made by Kraftmaid. We used the Home Depot free kitchen design service which helped a great deal. We did have some issues such as the large pantry was ordered in the wrong size and the crown moulding was the wrong size as well.

We replaced all of the appliances and decided to go with all black. I love the look. I was able to buy floor models for all appliances and saved a lot that way. None were damaged and they look as good as out of the boxes.

We will be installing tile backsplash around the entire kitchen as well as tile inside the window to protect it from water spills from the plants.

I picked the tile form a local tile shop and after ordering, discovered they were made in Spain. Nice touch.

The bakers rack is now where the breakfast bar opening was and the extra pantry, used for brooms and mops, is located where the old coat closet had been located. We bought the Bakers rack from Weekend Furniture and they had 3 with broken glass marked down from $750 to $250. I took all the good glass and was able to make one good rack out of them! I lvoe a good deal.
