LADY A'S FIC PICKS
An awfully biased selection of Remus Lupin stories.
The Stone House Cats and Public Service by Marstri
Absolutely my most favorite Remus fic ever! Remus meets a mysterious stranger whos on a mission for the Order, and hes obliged to keep her as a house guest for an indefinite period of time. Months after she inexplicably disappears from his home, what will he do when he meets her again and she has no memory of their encounter?
Excellently writtenher style is enjoyable and smooth to read, but very vivid, as wellshe reminds me of a cross between J. K. Rowling and a little bit of Brain Jacques with just a small dash of C. S. Forester (alright, so I have a tendency to compare everyone I like to C. S. Forester). Oh, and her plots wonderfulromance for Remus (and others), suspense, mysteryand she pulls it all together ingeniously. Her characterizations are spot on, and I just love her OC!
Boggart Truth by D. M. P.
An awesome little fic set during PoA. When a boggart is discovered in the staff room, Snape sneeringly invites Lupin to tackle it alone. However, theres a stronger, more fearsome boggart lurking there besides the one Lupin leaves for his first class to practice on, and it holds a surprise more frightening than the full moon
By the same author who wrote the stunning Sin of Lycaos series, a grim look at perceptions, prejudices, morality, and how monsters can be created by opinion as much as by wolves
A Touch of Moonlight by ilene
Set sometime during The Missing 12 Years, this fic follows Lupin to a strange and interesting new job--as a hunter and exterminator of Dark (or just plain pesky Magical) Creatures for a private company. His partner, Silver, is an excellently drawn character with many concerns of her own, but the fic expertly balances the pair's perspectives as Remus realizes he isn't the only one hiding something. Absolutely spectacular story.
Alexandrite by Pandora Culpa
Alexandrite is a beautifully written and very moving story with no superficiality; the tale of a simple birthday gift and the uncertainty of hopes when faced with reality...an absolute must-read, even for non-shippers.
MORE LUPIN!
Other noteworthy Lupin fics, neatly listed under chronological categories.
Young Remus Lupin and The Marauders at Hogarts
Did You Say Kids? by Belphegor (author of Hogwarts Original Pranksters First Year) Supercute li'l fic in which the Marauders and Lily talk about what they'll name their kids, among other things.
A Dog's Guide to Getting a Date by Pirate Perian features Sirius as the experienced romantic advisor to nervous Remus as he frets about asking a girl out. Hilarious one shot with brilliant and funny characterization.
A Dog's Guide to Kissing a Girl by Pirate Perian; sequel to A Dog's Guide to Getting a Date--every bit as funny and cute!
Midnight Delivery by Lady Atropos; Keeping friendships is hard for a young werewolf. One miserable night, Remus is surprised by the loyalty and affection shown by those he has only known three months; perhaps some friends are different than those he has known.
A Most Unusual Student by Alkari; Poppy Pomfrey is informed that she will be caring for a "most unusual student" for the next seven years, starting at the beginning of the fall term. This is her story.
The Tameness of a Wolf by Renee Floren is a WIP, and only one chapter is available at the moment. It's an intriguing start--Young!Remus' family life and his acceptance into Hogwarts.
The First Order of the Phoenix and The Missing 12 Years
Call of the Wild by Wolfie Twins...I don't even know if the Wolfie Twins are two authors or just one using that name, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took a team of twelve authors to write a fic this long and good! Whoever their beta is, I want them! This is the story of what Remus Lupin did during the twelve years we knew nothing about--one word: Romania. Rated R
The Mark of the Beast by A. J. Hall; this is a dark (and delicious) take on twenty-something Lupin that defies most people's characterization of the man; very engrossing, with an excellent twist at the end. It's a one-shot but it's long. Warnings: this is a Darkfic and is rated R
A Touch of Moonlight by ilene; this fic follows Lupin to a strange and interesting new job--as a hunter and exterminator of Dark (or just plain pesky Magical) Creatures for a private company. His partner, Silver, has some strange behaviour patterns as well, and Remus realizes he isn't the only one hiding something.
DADA and The Year Inbetween
Boggart Truth by D. M. P.; When a boggart is discovered in the staff room, Snape sneeringly invites Lupin to tackle it alone. However, theres a stronger, more fearsome boggart lurking there besides the one Lupin leaves for his first class to practice on, and it holds a surprise more frightening than the full moon
By the Numbers by Wolfcat; Anna Vector, professor of Arithmancy, literally runs into an old crush and discovers a new friend; faculty relations will never be quite the same.
The Dangers of Being a Gentleman by Laurus Nobilis; Cute and funny little fic explaining why Lupin was so anxious not to get his fortune told by Professor Trewlawny in PoA.
Defence Against the Dark Creature by Allemande; Very intriguing story about Lupins newest teaching jobat an institute for lycanthropic children. How will he react when he is surrounded by children suffering from the same curse he has hidden painfully for years? WIP.
First Quarter by Canis M.; Hilarious one-shot poke at Lupin in what seems to be a subgenre of "Lupin as the Only Guy Who Has a 'Time of the Month'" fics. Remus/Sirius slash fluff.
How Severus Snape Learned to Maraud by After the Rain; "It had all the ingredients of a great evening: chocolate biscuits, a practical joke (perfectly executed, despite one slight problem with the concept), sneaking around the castle at night, narrow escapes from various predatory creatures, and a little-known secret passage to explore. Except Remus was thirty-four and he ought to know better, and he had a snarky Potions Master along for company. (Semi-sequel to "My Teenage Fan Club," but makes sense on its own.)" [FA]
My Teenage Fan Club by After the Rain; Remus J. Lupin considers himself to be an unremarkable man in terms of looks; so why are so many of his students suddenly mooning over him? And is that a touch of jealousy from Snape?
Small Snippets From Lupin's Daily Life by Lady Twatterby; crazy, funny, cute, disturbing...all of these, and more! "Oh, bugger!"
Strange Condition by Lady Atropos; "Even imaginative young ladies can enter reality long enough to think they've fallen in love."
Writer's Block by Essayel; Alright, I admit it--I love this fic primarily for reasons of escapism. It's told from the POV of an author who takes a holiday from her home to recover from writer's block. Two strange men move into the cottage next door, and she ends up finding inspiration. Featuring Sexy!Remus and VulnerablePostAzkaban!Sirius--both of which I usually don't buy into, unless they're being written by Essayel. Really, I worship this woman. Rated R for amorous moments ^_^
The Second Order of the Phoenix and Beyond
Lupin/Tonks
Note...I have just made it a personal goal to read as much Lupin/Tonks fic as I can humanly stand. Prepare thineselves for an outpouring of Lupin/Tonks links....as soon as I can tear myself away long enough!
Alexandrite by Pandora Culpa
Alexandrite is a beautifully written and very moving story with no superficiality; the tale of a simple birthday gift and the uncertainty of hopes when faced with reality...an absolute must-read, even for non-shippers.
Damn by MisterMoonyLovesYou; Tonks will not rest until she finds out who Lupin's planning on asking out at the end of the week!
Flowers by Haley J. the Bat is a short, touching (but not sappy!) post-OotP fic. Sometimes a bad day can bring people together in the worst of times.
In the Closet, by MisterMoonyLovesYou; awkward situations ensue as Lupin and Tonks just try to steal a moment alone.
Names by Helena McKennon; a short fic mostly describing Tonks POV, and how only one person ever dared to use her first name...
PFMS by katmd is rather (well, VERY) silly and mostly immature, but also absolutely hilarious, and should be read by all at the earliest possible moment. Well, at least, it should be read by all females. Guys might not appreciate it.
Others
Look at the Stars by MisterMoonyLovesYou; few things have been constant in Remus Lupin's life; tonight, he takes a moment to appreciate one of the few things that has.
Public Service by Marstri; short sequel to The Stone House Cats, but can be read alone. Remus and Catherine perform a "public service" of sorts in a world recovering from the Second War.
Raison detre by Aegle; Wonderful first-person POV fic told from the perspective of an original character. Bookshop owner/witch Grace Edmond meets Remus Lupin and her life is changedbut can she compromise her own perceptions of a normal life with the love of the person who just made it worth living? Warning: this is a WIPits still unfinished.
Ritas Crush by Karina; Another short and sweet Lupin as the gentleman whos too gentlemanly for his own good fic. Can any nightmare compare to the prospect of Rita Skeeters loomingoh, youre not supposed to look there!
Small Snippets From 12 Grimmauld Place by Lady Twatterby; sequel to Small Snippets From Lupin's Daily Life; perhaps even more insane--can be read independently.
The Stone House Cats by Marstri;
Remus meets a mysterious stranger whos on a mission for the Order, and hes obliged to keep her as a house guest for an indefinite period of time. Months after she inexplicably disappears from his home, what will he do when he meets her again and she has no memory of their encounter?
Wolfsbane by Pirate Perian; Sirius, as Padfoot, feels the weight of the changes that have shaped himself and Remus as the two spend their first full moon together while Remus is under the influence of the Wolfsbane Potion. Twelve years have done many things to both, and Sirius is bitterly faced with the reality of their revised and reversed roles, and the distance of years that separate now from the way things were.
Epic, Sprawling Fics: "Remus Lupin, This Is Your Life" and AUs That Defy Categorization
Ebb and Flow by emberlivi; this is a fic that actually centers on a very well-written and thought-out OC, and it covers almost her entire life. Altea has known Sirius Black since they were both 11 years old...how will she cope with the news that the alleged traitor has escaped Azkaban and is lurking near Hogwarts? Written imaginatively by alternating between the PoA present and Altea's past, it's an extremely long but engrossing work. It focuses on Altea and Sirius, but Remus plays a fair role, as well. WIP
Magical Hair Police by Durayan (artwork as well). A one-shot spin-off in which Thing1 (See below) gives Remus a haircut. Very cute.
This Was Falling by Thing1; First part of the largest, most widely-read and expansively written single AU created by a very small group of authors Ive ever seen anywhere. Ironically enough, I dont much care for the story, but I love the flashbacks.
As you can probably guess, this page, as well, is under construction. I'll be filling in the rest of the links, and putting up more stories, as well as ordering the stories into more browse-able categories soon.
