The Lupin Fascination

NO! Hermione screamed. Harry, dont trust him, hes been helping Black get into the castle, he wants you dead toohes a werewolf!

There was a ringing silence. Everyones eyes were now on Lupin, who looked remarkably calm, though rather pale.

Not at all up to your usual standard, Hermione, he said. Only one out of three, Im afraid. I have not been helping Sirius get into the castle and I certainly dont want Harry dead An odd shiver passed over his face. But I wont deny that I am a werewolf.

-Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling

The best explanation Ive read yet of the strange anomaly I like to refer to as The Lupin Fascination can be found at The Werewolf Registry (read it here). Indeed, if you have ever caught yourself using the phrase my Remus, you definitely belong there. In fact, you should go there right nowyour Undetected Lupin Longing must be addressed at the soonest possible moment.

However, there are plenty of things one might want to know before jumping fully into the world of the League of Lupin Worshippers. Lupinites use many foreign terms and often refer to obscure or forgotten eventsin fact, there is quite a lot of mystery involved for the newly initiated Lupin fan. Heres a crash course for the newly involved, or a refresher for those already in deep. I hope it provides an Entertaining and Enlightening Look at the life and times of Remus Lupin. If theres anything Ive missed, forgotten, or misreported, let me know!

Professor Remus J. Lupin figures in three of the five available Harry Potter books by J. K. Rowlingplus, we have wind that hes due for another appearance in Book 7, making the total tally 3 Existing Book Appearances and 1 Projected Book Appearance. Most Lupin fans focus on book three, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (often abbreviated as PoA), where the professor makes his debut. Hes mentioned in passing several times in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (GoF). He can also been seen in book five, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (OotP), a book that has sparked even further speculation and fondness for everyones favorite werewolf. WARNING: The biography section of this page contains huge spoilers for the third and fifth books, as well as most of the rest of the series. Spoilers may also appear in the other sections of this page. Ye be warned(eth).
