Becoming a Wizard

Being a wizard is both fun and frustrating. As a young wizard, you will be awfully weak--not able to use a weapon as well as a warrior, and not having enough mana to cast offensively well at critters, and needing to rely on wands to hunt, which can be expensive.

I have been there, and remember the frustration well. I almost quit being a wizard, but I'm glad that I didn't. I love the fun of casting and having many spells that people beg me for, and I loved making it through the challenge of the early years. Things do improve once you get more mana and more spells to aid in casting. Wizards also peak around levels 25 to 35, becoming the most powerful class.

The question that you are probably asking is how can I make my wizard good? I can give you some advice.

First you will probably want to decide on a race. Any race can become a wizard, and has advantages and disadvantages. You can chose from half-elf, halfling, dark elf, sylvankind, elf, human, giantman, and dwarf.

My first choice for a wizard is half-elf. Half-elves have good spirit recovery, no negatives, other than a small lack of discipline, that if their discipline starts out higher, it won't be a problem. Half-elves seem to be pretty well-suited for any profession.

My second choice for a wizard would be the halfling. Halflings have low strength, which might be a problem in the younger years when you might have to rely on your blade to hunt, but they have pretty good learning and casting AS, and they have the highest spirit recovery rate.

Dark elves are also a good choice--they are the best race when it comes to magic. However, the big downside to dark elves is their slow spirit recovery rate.

Sylvans also make a good choice for wizards. They have only the small lack of discipline, and a few positive attributes, such as good dexterity and reflexes.

Pure elves have excellent reflexes and good dexterity. Their negatives are their small strength weakness, their big lack of discipline, and their slow spirit recovery rate.

Humans are average at about any profession, and have a small strength bonus.

Giantmen are very strong, but have lower intelligence. They have good spirit recovery rate like the half-elves do. They make an excellent choice as a war mage.

Dwarves are also strong, but have low reflexes. They are tied with halflings as having the fastest spirit recovery rate, and they have excellent warding against spiritual attacks. They also make excellent war mages.

The most important thing when choosing a race however, is which race you want to roleplay. Sure, a certain race might have the perfect stats, but if you want to roleplay another race instead, go for the race you want to be.
