| Choosing not to praise God is to turn from Him and take the first step away from His presence. The psalmist David tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people - when praise is being offered, He is there! (see Ps. 22:3.) To avoid praise, then, is to shun the Lord. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| The truth is, one is not saved just to make an empty, one-time profession, but to live in fellowship with God and minister to Him. Over and over the Lord admonishes us to praise Him, sing to Him, and offer Him the sacrifice of praise. He considers our praise to be fruit. (see Ps 9:11; 47:1; 92; 98:4; 100; 113:1-3; Jeb. 13:15.) | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| The book of Acts reports that Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises to God when they were imprisoned for preaching the gospel. Their praise released the power of God in their behalf. As they praised Him, God shook the foundations of the prison - the doors opened and set them free (See 16:25,26.) Regardless of the limitations and hindrances the enemy, Satan, puts in our path - no matter what means he uses to try to lock us away - we can overcome them all through praise. Prison doors cannot stand as we enter into God's gates with sacrifices of praise and into His courts singing praises. "My heart is inditing a good matter," wrote the palmist. "I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer" (Ps. 45:1). The word inditing means "overflowing with." So the verse is really saying, "My heart is overflowing with a good matter." What is so good? All the things I can say about the king, Jesus Christ. Truly He makes our hearts to overflow! |
