Progress Analysis for The East Grand Rapids High School project: Through this project, our group's goal was to do what we could to raise awareness of gentically engineered food and the labeling of it. This goal was accomplished in many ways. By completing our webpage, we contributed information to the public to help them become aware of the situation. We believe people have the right to know what they are eating, especially if it is not real. We understand that without permission from the government, nothing can change; because of this, we decided to write to our Senators, Representatives, and chair people informing them of the concern relating to this issue. In response to those letters, we realized that the lableing of genetically engineered food was not being taken seriously. Our group knew that in order for anything to change, we would have to be heard. it would be hard to be successful in this area of change, but if a group had the time and knowledge it could be done.
Genetically engineered potatoes, sweet corn and sugar beets could be grown with far less pesticides, soil erosion and loss of innocent wildlife...but currently they are not.
