Two: Windfeather
I watched as my closest friend was dragged away by a member of a family I had bowed to and respected almost all my life while I was just thrown to one side like.....like a......like the thrall I was born as.
Sighing I made my way to the improvised shanties that seemed to be the home of the thralls.
don't ask me why but round about the beginning of time those who were clan less, and fore some reason the rare winged centaur was included with this, were forced to work for the clans as nothing more than unpaid labour, our only rewards were food and shelter if we were lucky.
as it was during the Mytholian War, a large number if winged and clan less centaurs had managed to escape Mytholia, that was until we were discovered by another conquering race (the war that Richard had said, I was fleeing from was started by them) until the completely unorthodox M.S commander had swept in to the rescue, i had befriended her son after
Coming to from my thoughts I had reached the shanties, I looked at every one milling around and the general attitude here was one of neighbourly friendship, no backstabbing clan lords, it reminded me of home. After being saved was now a growing and thriving colony
As I approached all seemed curious but hesitant to come near to me, I looked around, nervous now, looking for some one to help me from my bonds.
'Please?' I asked moving my bound arms, almost begging for freedom from my bonds, wishing Richard had broken them as well as the hobbles
No one approached, if anything they all took a step back, there was a long silence with the only sound being nervous hooves fidgeting on the muddy ground. I just stood there waiting, hoping for help
'Swords hilt, I don't believe you lot, he's a thrall, one of us, so why are you not helping him' a firm female voice came from behind me
I almost fell spinning round to face what I thought would be the commander, though the mare's voice was nothing like the commander's her attitude was identical. But instead I faced a wonderfully marked piebald cob mare, who, with a flirtatious step reviled a pair of piebald wings held comfortably at rest. I just about fell over when I saw them
She laughed at me as I regained my balance and she removed the bonds on my arms and wings
'I'm Riversong' she introduced when I had shook and stretched my wings out a couple of times
'I...I...' I tried to answer her but I couldn't get any words out
'He's Windfeather' a deep gruff voice said from above us and a over large charcoal grey wolf jumped down from the shadowy roof he had been hiding on, its yellow eyes full of humour 'Where's his high and mightyness??'
My nervous embarrassment changed to mild anger when the wolf spoke, I just wanted to get away from all the eyes watching me
'Riversong forgive me but can we please go somewhere else I fear I have embarrassed myself enough for one day' she smiled at me and walked further in to the shanties
'come on you lot, you've gawked enough and we all have to work tomorrow' she shooed the others away as I followed the wolf at my side 'Get Out of My Way. SHIFT!? my head whipped up from my thoughts (and eye's on her rump) at her shout
'Ohh she reminds me of someone' the wolf sniggered and looked up at my embarrassed face 'red and grey aren't a good combination' he trotted ahead as I vowed to stand on his tail one night when he slept
Riversong led us to what appeared to be her own shanty set well back and far away from everyone else
'You can sleep here, till you get a place sorted of your own, but I must ask, who are your friends, the wolf and the human??' she led the way in to the basic but comfortable shelter
'I'm not just a wolf but a Sengalan Wolf, indigence power and beauty, and my name dear lady is Shadow' and the wolf bowed his head to Riversong
'And it's clear you are only Half Sengalan wolf' I tugged gently at his tail, he gust moved away in a mild sulk 'as for the human, Richard Lucas, is my good friend and commander of a mercenary group of which we are a very small part of' I followed her suggestion to lay on the matting that covered the dirt floor
'Look I don't mean to be pushy, but if we worked together could you at least get the Foals out of this hell?' I looked at Shadow and smiled
'With the help of Kencaris, god of freedom and his mother I think we might be able to get you all out, easily' I smiled at her puzzled look
'Where is he anyway' Shadow was scratching an ear with a back paw absently
'Having a family reunion' Riversong Glared at me surprised, I just smiled
I pointed though a window in the shack at the Wildhart banner that we could see across the open centre of the compound
