Way of the Sacred Star

In all cultures there are elements in the legend of the Huntress that all worshipers find in common. The Way of the Sacred Star interprets some of the elements differently than some others cultures, however. Let's look at one common story and how we interpret these elements.

Story of the Krrska, the Sacred Star

(As told by an old gnome astronomer in the planetarium aboard the Dhu Gillywack)

*Please note, comments made by the Way are noted in this color.

The old gnome says, "Long ago, there was a very, very beautiful woman known as the Huntress who was the bodyguard of the king. She was so beautiful that the queen became jealous, and sent her own bodyguard, Arachne, to engineer her downfall. Generally, there is little disagreement about this point, the betrayal. There are some differences in what exactly happened; however, we find this to be of little importance. The important point is that the Queen, with the help of her henchwoman, Arachne, betrayed the Huntress.

As a result, the beautiful woman was exiled. While out in the desert, she was bitten by a spider and experienced an epiphany during which she became immortal. Swearing revenge, the Huntress returned to the city."

This part of the legend is where the Way of the Sacred Star often differs from those beliefs of other cultures. It is our belief that the spider was sent to poison the Huntress, probably by Arachne and the queen, to guarantee her finish was complete.

Knowing the strength and vitality of the Huntress, neither the queen nor Arachne could take the chance she could survive being exiled. They had to be sure she was dead to avoid the Huntress from revealing their evil deeds......It wasn't the spider's bite that caused Her immortality, but during the near death state, she received a revelation.

This epiphany showed the Huntress by who's hand and for what reason She was exiled and left to die. By the intervention of one of the Akarti, who still remains a mystery but the one we call the Guardian, she was granted immortality and did not die in exile.

The old gnome says, "She found Arachne in the dungeon, and granted her betrayer forgiveness when Arachne pleaded. Here again the Huntress exhibits honor, compassion and justice by granting Arachne forgiveness--believing Arachne was only doing as the queen had ordered. The two of them set out to kill the queen. However, as soon as the beautiful woman struck the queen dead, Arachne turned and killed the Huntress. Betrayed once again!

Arachne bent to drink the immortal blood, and was bitten by a black widow spider and forever transformed into a spider-faced creature herself. One difference in our beliefs than that of other cultures is our belief the spider was under the control of the guardian and was used as twist of irony to turn Arachne into the horrible spider creature.

The Huntress was raised into the heavens by the gods and became the eight-pointed star known as Krrska, which you see here." The symbol of the eight pointed star is not a representation of spiders, as some cultures believe, but a representation of the power and justice of triumph over the Huntress' enemies, especially Arachne--a reminder that the huntress prevailed. It is a sacred star, an honor from the gods, not a symbol of a spider.

The old gnome says, "Always fearful now of betrayal, the Huntress is watched over by the Guardian. T he Guardian, we believe is one of the Akarti . It was he who granted the Huntress her immortality and manipulated events in her life so that she would prevail over her enemies. Which Akarti would this be? We leave that to your own thoughts, however, we believe he would be the god who would best understand justice and honor. He stands behind her, ever alert. The star representing his head is called Apparea."

She, who represents honor, strength, and justice.....

TENOR

Way of the Sacred Star

It is our belief that the Huntress, always being honorable and just, only sought revenge against those who had plotted against her. She represents honor, strength, and justice. Those on the path of the Way, are devoted worshippers dedicated to following the Huntress and the Code of the Krrska.

Code of Krrska

Followers of the Way must practice and keep the three doctrines of the Krrska.
The three doctrines of the Krrska are Honor, Justice, and Devotion.

HONOR:

Faithful will conduct themselves honorably at all times.

No dueling except as agreed to as a matter of honor, not to determine who is the best fighter. Only exception would be a realm wide contest such as the Gladiator Games. Choose your battles very carefully.

Care is to be taken as to what words roll off the tongues of faithful. Foul language, unsavory insults, provoking violence for the sake of violence, etc. will not be tolerated. Remember, you represent the Way!

Elders are expected to lend their knowledge and skills with younger. Elders, however, are not be “enslaved” by younger faithful for the purpose of making their training or battles easier.

JUSTICE:

All are to act justly and at all times. Justice is shall be dealt with by the impartial examination of conflicting claims as a means to a peaceful resolution if possible. All followers shall carefully guard the assignment of merited rewards or punishments.

Justice does not mean you may harm someone you have a quarrel with in the name of justice or revenge. If you have a dispute that you cannot use reason to come to a conclusion, use the sources at your disposal such as the counsel of an elder or local court first.

DEVOTION:

Followers are often members of various houses, organizations or societies as long as they do not violate or disgrace the principles of the Code of Krrska or the Huntress nor interfere with you devotions to the Huntress.

Remember, our enemies do not always show themselves, but Arachne has proven herself as our enemy. Arachne is our enemy as is her legions of spiders, priests, priestesses, acolytes, etc.

As a form of devotion, those followers should maintain and improve their battle skills for those times when we are called upon to use them.

Some followers of the way avoid using the image of spiders so there is no confusion between devotion to the Krrska to that of her enemies. Many of her followers from the southern regions are more likely to show their devotion by use of eight-pointed stars and/or cat images.
