Collection of Haiku
Haiku is an ancient poetry form wherein the first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 and the last line again has only 5.  Typically nature-based; Haiku seeks to illuminate an aspect or character of the object as succintly as possible.

Senryu has the same pattern as haiku but is more based on a person or people, and is preferably humorous or ironic.

Tanka is sililar to Haiku in that it is nature base but the five line pattern ends with the fourth and fifth line having 7 syllables.

This is still a popular style of poetry.  For the poet the challage of making a evocative poem within the challenge of beats and rhythm and the linits of syllables helps poets focus on their craft. For the reader, it's a brief sidetrip in reality, looking at everyday objects with someone else's eyes.
