This will be the 60th anniversary of the opening of Lady Mabel College of Physical Education at Wentworth Woodhouse and a very special day is being organised. Make a date now on your next year's calendar.

2008 Reunion

Our reunion began with the reception in the Barn where our President, Mrs.Sybil Wilbraham and our Vice President, Miss Chris Short welcomed members and invited them to sign in at the table where Beryl Cook, our reunion secretary and Carolyn Walker greeted them. The weather was rather dull with some drizzle but our members were not deterred by this. Lively chat and happy greetings were exchanged as over 100 ex-Lady Mabel students met for coffee before the AGM.

Sybil Wilbraham (President) and Chris Short (Vice-President)
welcoming members to the reunion.

This proved to be a very interesting meeting bringing up,apart from the usual reports from the officers, discussions concerning the Constitution and a proposed window in Wentworth Church. A small gift was distributed to members from the 1958 year leavers to celebrate their 50 years as members. Last year the 1956 membership gave each member a bottle of Wentworth Estate local water.

The meeting concluded at 12.15p.m. and members gathered in the Fitzwilliam Room and the Barn for drinks before luncheon at 1.45p.m.

John Raw, the new manager of "The Rockingham Arms",and his staff provided us with an excellent buffet lunch, catering for various dietary requirements, followed by coffee.

It was a very pleasant,well-organized meal. Our afternoon was left free for members to catch up with old friends and talk to our new President and Vice President. Tea was served from 4p.m. when raffle prizes are collected, fond farewells taken and promises made to return next year. This was another happy successful reunion, enjoyed by all. (Click here for more reunion photographs.)

Next year, 2009, will be very special, our 60th anniversary. If you are an ex-Lady Mabel College student and would like to join us, contact the secretary who will be delighted to provide you with all details.
Make a note: Saturday, May 16th 2009.

We are trying to increase our reunion photograph gallery. Members of LMCOSA and Old Students of LMCPE are encouraged to send photos to the secretary for inclusion on our web-site. The links on this site should be of interest to present and potential members (i.e. Old Students of Lady Mabel College).

We still have no representatives of the leaving years of 1969 and 1973.
Can you help?

The secretary recently organised a 10 mile walk through the grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse for her local walking group, visiting the main follies, the crypt in the old church, the bear pit, and ending the day with a meal at "The Rockingham Arms". Click here to see the photographs of the day, and a map of the route. (Visiting the Mausoleum and Hoober Stand has to be arranged through the Estate Office and there is a small entrance fee.)

Membership of our association costs £7.50 per annum. All members receive an annual magazine in February and a letter from the Secretary in November. Information concerning the reunion is sent out in March. Old students wishing to join the association please contact the Honorary Secretary. The reunions are always very well attended, most enjoyable, and not at all formal. Students and staff have a chance to get together again. They are always held on the 3rd Saturday in May at "The Rockingham Arms"in Wentworth Village.
