ODE TO WHISKEY
An Irish Song
It all started this way...
Our families were friends for years. My hubby and I even
went to the same schools. Although he graduated a year
before
I did.
I remained in our hometown, as he went
into the
Marine Corps.
The link's to a small page on his Corps
I, to this day, remember back to my graduation day.....
there he was!! Out in the audience, with his uniform on.
Oh that uniform....it'll turn a lot of ladies' eyes.
Mine too! He was on leave, and wanted to make sure he
he saw my graduation. Ahhhhhh, the young and in love.
Nothing serious happened between us until I "sowed my
wild oats", and he was discharged from the Corps. Soon
afterwards.....well,
You guessed. The two of us!! And, we've been through
tough times, but a lot of good times too. We've endured
a lot together, and continue with our love to this day.
Just think, how many young couples stay together this long
and remain as a couple? Hey, I'm proud of our years
together!! And my man? Well.......
A picture of me & hubby years ago!
My dear man. Let me tell you a bit about him. He loves
the outdoors.
Give him a day he can be one with nature,
and he's the happiest. Sometimes,
I think he should have
been born a couple of centuries earlier....he'd be an
"authentic Mountain Man", riding beside Jim Bridger.
He'd also be at every rendevous in the West!
Competing in Black Powder Games. *s*
True in life to him are his kids first. Then, mountains,
friends, wrestling, computer. Annually he gets his
hunting licenses for hunting bear and deer. He
also loves to hunt with bow & arrow. When he has a
chance, he takes the boys fishing....and I tag along
as I love the sport!
Dan also loves to garden! Each year he plants vegetables
such as corn, tomatoes, peppers....you name it! He's
planted just about everything under the sun. His garden
is vast. In fact, it has more square footage than
our home! And we have frozen and canned foods from
his garden year 'round.
Although, we
both
like
to play games....he's the biggest contender. It's not that
he
has
to win (secretly, I do!), but his enjoyment
with participating is strong, and everlasting.
Dan's a stay at home dad. And he's a great father. At the
tender age just a few years from being a teenager, he was
facing a life with me, and a newborn with Down Syndrome. He
took it hard, had some real bad times accepting and wondering
"why me?" And, "Is it my fault?" Those sorta things. It's
only natural to feel guilt. Then, after holding his son, and
realizing that it takes a special kind of person to be
a father to a special child....he grew stronger. Hey, even
being a parent to a "normal" child can be a challenge. And
we've learned to take a day at a time and he and I have
come to realize, we can do it! Together!
Those were difficult years, at the beginning.
He's a good cook, too. Thank goodness, 'cause
I abhor the task. He's a very sufficient disciplinarian and
an above average housekeeper! And I do so appreciate
the fact that he is, and accepts it with pride!
But, like I said, he lives
day to day with a big heart and is full of love to share.
Both his boys adore him and respect him.
For being home, taking care of our children as I work the
"day shift" away from home, I say here now.....Thanks
so much sweety for being here for us, and sharing your
heart and your love!!
Words written to me years ago by Dan, a quote
from the Book -- "Give Your Heart to the Hawks"
For this reason, I use the hawk images and background!
