| Why Kilian Lauro and Fabian Quit Gil's Band |
| "Dear Gil, Since we see ourselves as live musicians and we want to develop ourselves further musically, we think it would be best that we go our own separate ways. We hope that this decision doesn't affect our friendship. Yours, Lauro, Kilian, and Fabian....." This fax arrived on September 28th @ Gil home in Munich, occurs the break-up of one of Germany's most successful newcomer acts. Gil who had just returned from his trip to Asia, was shocked, but knew that the break-up was comming. In the last couple of weeks Kilian Lauro and Fabian had been cancelling important performances because of school work, and replacement musicians had to be found. September of '97 was when everything started: Newcomer Gil (16) was seaching for a backup band for the "Round n Round" video. His brother Tal(14) played the bass, his friends Kilian(17) guitar, and as a drummer Lauro(15) was found. the single topped the charts and not only was Gil loved by the BRAVO readers, but also his band. The boys accompanied Gil to TV performances and the "Kids go Music" tour in April '98. That's when Gil enlisted a keyboarder Fabian (18) to make his band even stronger. But already on the second "Kids go Music" tour in June the band had problems, because Kilian and Lauro often missed performances because of school. At the "Dome" performance on the 5th of September in Oberhausen, Gil turned up a with a new line up. Next to Tal, there was also drummer Matthias(19), and Guitarist Andi(20). It developed into a crisis. "Kilian, Fabian and I didn't want to do half-playback performances anymore," explains Lauro, " We are real musicians and we want to play live. So we separated ourselves from Gil and formed our own band. At the moment we're still looking for a singer. We want to write our own songs, that's something we couldn't do while we were with Gil." Gil understands this decision and wishes the three of them the best of luck. "We will definitely stay friends!" He says... |
