A Sweet Goodbye
By Jana Neumann

I kiss her gently then say good-bye, Her eyes are begging me not to go
But the papers are signed, The duty is official
A tear rolls down her cheek, and I wipe it away
More follow, I want to turn and walk away
But I cant, I pull her close and close my eyes
I realize there is no place where, She ends and I begin
We are together bonded as one, I am not the same man I was
When she came to me, She has shown me what love is
And to love in return, And now I must leave
Knowing that tomorrow, We will be apart
Neither happy, both sad, 2,000 miles between us
The love I have for her, Is strong and true
Three long years Ill be away, I want her to come
And live with me, I slowly release my hold
And take her face in my hands, I tell her
I love you and need you, in my life, would you be my Navy wife?
I hold my finger to her lips, To hush her answer
I am afraid to hear, What she will say
Maybe I shouldnt have done this today, She kissed my hand
And looked up at me, No longer with tears of pain
But shining with love, She softly whispers
A Navy wife Im proud to be!!
