Powdered white Shadowed blue Softly mounded on sill and stone Silent feathered flakes spinning pale and faint in slowly whirling wintry whispers of intricate crystals reflecting icy rays of fire around the ghosted sun Sheer shrieks of mirth and glee crackle the air in childish wonder Rounded packed and flung balls of snow drop in scattered array on outlined angels wing bound to earth Frozen in slowly melting time broom or pipe...scarf and hat brings smiling shape to kinship of man and snow In seasoned flight gliding on earth child in man tastes the frozen bite of scent and sense of white and light on the blanket cover of slumbering life in winter |

Birth of Christmas Eons ago...before time knew dawn swirling flakes of frozen crystal whirled and wound a prison of white The ghosted sun...feathered in fire finger droplets on a wintry harp plucked and dripped icicles on twig and bough and thorn shivering scream By slushing stream and creaming crevice amid a sea of snow and songs of desolation. man waited and wondered and whispered bitter vapor from twisted lips ice bound limbs huddled in long frozen night Imaging fairy fantasy and fire as light to life he created gods to be...in mythic human form... that parted wind and scattered snow Mars and Isis...Apollo and Diana...Furies and Eris Pan plays as elf frolics with lacy silver tree nymph gossamer mist glistening in moonlight giving birth to winter solstice Behold the frigid dawn crystal flakes of magic and majestic light silhouettes tracing the sky bind beast of red...bind bough of green muted shades appear in wisped pastel hues Alkonost...half woman...half bird fresh from the birth of heaven Eons pass in conjured blazing... in grains of winter sand...golden rings of time imagining enchanted realms from kin and culture in dreams of glory...protective and vengeful in man's own image he created warriors and heroes...folklore and druid In a dry and desolate place after the world had warmed and flooded a nomadic people...long envisioned unity...oneness so powerful was their created one to name him was forbidden He was to come from their image from their loins...from their tortured land...from their culture in the fire from the tallow...shadows wavering with flicker's ebb they waited for the one It came upon a midnight clear so the tale is told In the winter solstice in dry desert...whirling dancing wind...in biting cold and bitter sand in oppression...in despair on a drifting star the bleak winter night gave birthright's dawn he came From nothingness to chaos from cosmic egg to primal mound no other one since the dawn of time so touched the history of man Ages pass...waltzing in time generations weave the spell and tell the tale clinging to Clause and Chanukah and Christmas lighting menorah and tree...gnarled ancient silhouettes No longer huddled man celebrates winter's dance icy lace on frost covered leaves in majestic form...crystal butterflies...catching visions sugar plums... silver kisses...intricate flowerings in ice white cream candy...gold and green scents...red winter berry....ribboned secrets and crunchie cookies in the snow Against the fluttering fairy flakes on a starry night we celebrate...the birth of the message Hope of Eternal Life
Winter Snowy...stark...sparkles in ice day-awash in somber gray streaked black outline night-reflected light on white twinkled. We add color to winter...as bright as we can bright red...bright green the contrast of decorated trees against nature's sleep We fill our houses with lights and family and food and laughter. Rainbows of ribbons...Creatures of Myth and Magic and we gather around the music and drink to life. Words like Very and Merry and Happy and Joy along with simmering scents fill the air. On Thanksgiving friends come. Board Games, Card Games, Football and Food. Heated Politics, Lofty Topics and Cranberries. The day officially ends when the last turkey sandwich is slathered with Mayo. I call it Noel by many names, by many religions, by many cultures and customs, we celebrate the depth of winter with family by love, kin by birth and friends who are more than family. With children near it's noisy and fun with loved ones near it's oh's and ah's and laughter with your own true love it's magic and mistletoe. Late at night, enveloped in the the dim glow of fire light, beneath the tinseled tree... you kiss and gift and create secret memories. New Year's Eve was made for lovers. Beginnings and Endings and Rememberings never forgotten wondering if old acquaintances should be. A piano bar...the wail of a lone sax lamenting the passage of time and the pain of Ending. Parties of revelers noisily hooting in the birth of Beginning. Celebrating Hope. And the lovers...capsule a year... re-live each moment in the span of a single evening and finally kiss at midnight.

Snow Sounds No breath of wind...no gleam of sun Still the white snow whirls softly down Twig and bough...Blade and thorn In icy quiet...all forlorn. Whispering...rustling...through the air On sill and stone...on roof...on lair Heaping it's powdery crystal flakes Of every tree a mountain makes Till pale and faint...at close of day glint from the West...one wintry ray And feathered in fire...where ghosts the moon A robin shrills his lonely tune.
Winter Alphabet Soup A-whirl in an alien atmosphere...ablaze in airy afterglow A blinking and barren branch blew in the brittle breeze Careening like a carefree and capricious carousel it circled and climbed in the chilled cosmos In a dancing dervish it drifted down to the damp dusted dune In elegant e'lan earth embraced encircled and enlaced it en-passant ending an evasive eye in eternal empty expanse Fleeced and fluffed under a flurry of freezing flakes forgotten for forest...flesh for flame Gasping and gaunt in a grey ghosted ground the tiny twig grieved in the grasping gravity grave Haunting the horizon a hunting hawk hovered on a high hill In haste it hustled to hoist and haul the twig to harvest its heaped-with-herb hearth On an instant icy indraft the twig came loose In a jerked jubilant jaunt it kissed the knoll In a leafless leap to live ...it lowered limb to the lure of leaf, lawn, landscape and loam Missing the misty milky meadow it merged on a miserable muck of mud A naive and naked nomad it noticed nothing to nurture and nuzzle in the numbing niche An odious and opaque ooze overflowed and obscured any oasis The pearly and pale powdered pasture portended a painful phase of his plight Presently a perfumed pout in prim pantaloon and paisley petticoat plucked the twig and placed it with pungent potpourri and pine and poinsettia. It quivered in quiet query...relishing release riding a rosy riddle...a regenerated realty searching for serene significance In a spun sugar scene a silver shimmer and satin sleigh slicked and slid in solitary and satin smooth snow as slippery sleet sloshed in slushy slumber the snowy streams stilled a season in seductive sleep Twig to Tribute Tradition in temporal temple thaw and throb...then trembling transformation teardrop tease ...tender tendril twill and twirl...truss and twine twist twixt translucent tassel treasure and treat...taste and texture toy and train track...trophy trumpet and tangerine Thrilling In the uninhibited and unearthly undulation the upward uranic and urim unleashed Utopia Unlocked...He was Usable Vivacity and virtue and verve...his vision Victory without...white whirled and whipped in warning wail weak wood wrecked and whacked wild wolf watched wintry whip wilt wasted woven web whispering wind wedded willow with winterberry wine The Twig watched in wonder from window within whole warm and well
