A/N: The challenge was to write a drabble casting Snape as a character in a fairy tale.
Disclaimer: Harry Potter, Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall, and all their associates are characters belonging to J.K. Rowling. I claim no rights to them, their surroundings, or their situations. Much to my sorrow.

Minerva watched sadly as the rather homely young boy was driven away from yet another group of would-be companions. Clearly the child had little experience dealing with others his own age, and his too-serious face and ragged clothing suggested that his home life had not been a pleasant one.
She wished he'd been Sorted into Gryffindor. She'd dealt with such awkward children before, and was certain she could have helped. But this one was a Slytherin; and so she could only watch, hoping that--like the Ugly Duckling of Muggle stories--he would eventually find his proper place.
