Zen Brant Gesner was born June 23, 1970 to Harold and Nan Gesner, (formerly Nan Martin, a famous stage actress). His parents were into Japanese culture, architecture, and religion. His name is derived from the Japenese religious sect that practices enlightment through meditation.
Zen's first caught the acting bug in High School. He performed in several plays.
After graduating from high school, Zen applied to several prestigious dramatic arts schools including: the Actors Conservatory, Julliard and the London Academy Of Music & Drama, where he was accepted. While at the Academy, Zen performed in plays like the Cherry Orchard and Richard III. He was also schooled in everything from fire blowing, to poetry, archery and fencing. He even earned an advanced certificate from The Society of British Fight Directors. Zen says he has always been fascinated with historical fighting and the distinctive forms of fighting and weapon types unique to different regions of the world. He says that swordplay is very much like dance, and he loves to dance. When Zen was 18, he moved to Costa Mesa and started working in a repertory theater pushing a broom and fetching tea for the lead actors. He would watch the shows from back stage and try to pick up as much as possible.
Zen returned home and soon got his first big break came. He landed a small part in the hit movie Dumb & Dumber.
Zen has many hobbies and interests. He enjoys surfing, archery, rollerblading, parasailing, scuba diving, golf, tennis and skateboarding. Zen also has a pilots license, and can play both the piano and the trumpet.

Zen has been married since 1995 (sorry girls!). His wife is named Cindy. Cindy & Zen became first-time parents on July 24, 1997 at 7:55a.m. when Cindy gave birth to a beautiful boy - Finn Harry Gesner.
