  • Full Length Bio

Kevin David Sorbo was born on September 24, 1958 in Mound, Minnesota. His parents are Lynn (a retired teacher) and Ardis (a retired nurse). Kevin has 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Kevin attended Mound Westonka High School. After high school Kevin attended the University of Minnesota and Moorhead State College. He majored in Marketing and Advertising. He was active in college sports (football, basketball, baseball and hockey) and he appeared in numerous plays (such as Death of a Salesman, A Hatful of Rain, Sexual Perversity in Chicago among others) while attending college.

After leaving school, Kevin joined the Kim Dawson Modelling Agency in Dallas. He also joined a theatre group and continued to perform in various plays. He landed his first real part on TV in 1983, a 2-line walk-on part for the night-time soap Dallas.

Then Kevin followed his girlfriend to Europe where he appeared in numerous print ads. He also appeared in over 100 American and European TV commercials.

In 1986, he moved back to L.A., where he landed roles in several pilots that bombed. He also auditioned for (and lost out on) the roles of Fox Mulder on the X-Files, John Kelly on NYPD Blue (to think we missed seeing his butt) and Superman/Clark Kent on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Kevin continued to get guest shots on a variety of shows such as Santa Barbara, The Commish, Murder She Wrote and First and Ten. He also appeared in the movie Final Pulse (aka Condition: Critical).

In 1993 Kevin auditioned for a TV movie loosely based on the Greek/Roman hero Hercules, but the producers were leaning towards casting Dolph Lundgren as the legendary strongman. But fortune shone on Kevin and he won the role. The first Hercules movie - Hercules and the Amazon women was extremely successful. This launched 4 more wildly successful Hercules movies, all released in 1994.

Somehow, during this very busy time, Kevin found the time to appear in the movie Slaughter of the Innocents.

In January 1995, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys hit the airwaves as a weekly series and was a runaway hit. This success lead to Kevin making guest appearances on other TV shows, such as Cybill, Just Shoot Me, and of course Xena: Warrior Princess.

In 1996 Kevin was approached to be the lead in the fantasy/action film Kull The Conqueror. Kevin earned a 7 figure salary for starring in the smash film.

The final episode of Hercules aired in January 2000, but Kevin has not sat idle. He is at the helm of a new show - Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda.
