Fairy Mountain

The path leads you to a heavily forested area on the other side of the mountain, and the trees here seem to be of a more tropical type, though the air temperature feels cooler if anything to you. You peer through the undergrowth of large ferns, trying to make out any life at all.

"Who are you?" a gruff voice asks from somewhere to your left. The undergrowth swishes slightly, and the voice in on your right. "A secret place, this is, no visitors can find it."

You cannot locate the source of the voice until a large white object emerges and looks at you with large blue eyes. It appears to be another Faequine, but its tail is feline, and the coat is decorated with snow-leopard markings.

You stare, speechless, until the Faequine shakes his head, as if exasperated with you, and calms down a bit. "I see that you cannot possibly harm us, so allow you to stay I will. I am called Bastirek, and I am a Fae of Big Cats." He nods, and stalks off into the ferns, tail twitching. He obviously is expecting you to follow him, so you do.

He stops after a moment and introduces you to another Big Cat Fae, this one with colorful butterfly wings and tiger markings. As he speaks, you can't help but notice that he speaks the best English of any Faequine you have met so far, though his accent sounds more exotic.

"This is my mate, Ralahza. She is also Fae of Big Cats, but has butterfly ancestry as well." He nods and nuzzles the orange and black female. "We have started another Herd here on the other side of the mountain. The members are all very rare types, which is why we like to be so secretive."

Another pair of Faequines comes out of the woods. You are especially taken aback by the big stallion. He is decorated in wild pastel colors with dragonfly wings, and flowers in his mane and tail. Bubbles fill the air around him wherever he goes. You've never seen anothing quite like him.

"I am Oberon," the stallion says in a cheerful voice that sounds like he is almost singing the words. "I am a Faequine of Fairies, and father of many foals." He winks at you, seeming greatly amused. "My first mate, Myeja, a Gem Faequine of Opals."

The pretty mare steps forward and nuzzles Oberon. As expected, she is colored like an opal, white with shimmers of pastel colors. You notice that she also wears many items of jewelry, including a silver bracelet with a dragon head decoration.

Oberon and his mate mysteriously disappear into the woods again, and you see another pair, quite familiar to you. As they get closer, you realize that it's Gabriel and Rotherra, only foals last time you saw them!

Gabriel grins. "We have decided to join the more remote Herd of the mountain now that we're adults. Rotherra and I are even mated now," He looks quite proud.

Both of the once mischievious youngsters have become even more magnificent with adulthood. You watch curiously as Gabriel's dove helps him bind his tail. So that's how they do it!

"Our filly turned out to be very special, an Icy Devil Holy Warrior. We sent her off to live with another Herd, but perhaps one day we will have another," Rotherra says noblely. You muse that she has turned out much like her father, a true warrior at heart, but still kind and gentle.

Bastirek stalks out from the undergrowth again and gives you a stern look. "You must go now, stranger, but now that we trust you, you may return, I suppose," the stallion says begrudgingly, but with an amused twinkle in his eyes. He leads you back to the main path and shows you the way to go. You pass another carved tree on your way out.
