The Pajama Game Will Be Performed By Wakulla Community Theatre Story By Tara Hernandez
Our March cover story features scenes from the Wakulla Community Theatres Spring Broadway musical, The Pajama Game, the Theatres fourteenth production. As the Theatres audience has grown, so has the home. The Theatre was able to refurbish the old Sopchoppy Auditorium and turn it into a magnificent theatre. Not only are the plays absolutely marvelous, so are the surroundings. It is breathtaking to see what has been done with such a great piece of history. This year the Historic Sopchoppy Theatre is proud to present The Pajama Game. The play features many of the past performers, only this time the leading man and lady are new to our stage. We welcome to our production a unique twist to the typical romance. Not only are the leading characters engaged in a heartthrob romance, so are the leading actors off stage. Alan and Crystal Nelson, of Tallahassee, began their love affair six years ago. This love for each other shines through as their characters begin to realize their affection for one another. The two do an amazing job of 'acting' in love! Another key part to the play this year is Marian Revell. Ms. Revell has been the backbone to the choreography and backstage management for the past performances. This year however, Marian decided to audition for Gladys, a wonderful supporting role that thrust Shirley Maclaine into the limelight when she played the role on Broadway. Marian has performed in another production with the ever-famous Hernandos Hideaway, and this time that is where you will find her! Marian is a great asset to the Theatres long lasting popularity and it is about time she showed some of her talent to the crowd. Do not think that the actors have changed too much though, because you will still see some of your old favorites (and if you do not have a favorite, now is the time to get one)! Playing on stage you will see James Marsh, Louis Hernandez, Francey Newland, Bill Stephens, Mike Chappell, Buddy Updegraff, Jowanna Harvey, Gary and Rena Crum and Gene and Carolyn Lambert. These are just a few of our regular celebrities. Aside from our wonderful performers there is another key lady. Mrs. Reba Mason, director of the Wakulla Community Theatre since its inception, is the one to thank for all of the years that this group has stayed together. Reba is the one who picks the plays, chooses the actors, and puts the whole thing together. Without Reba we would have no community theatre. Reba is the spark that starts the flame. Just a touch of her enthusiasm and delight can get the entire cast ready for the big production. Reba is so full of energy, charisma and emotion that it definitely overflows into the acting, which in turn overflows into the audience. To feel this excitement you have to come experience the Wakulla Community Theatre. This show will surely leave you laughing and it may even spark some romance into your own hearts! We cannot wait to see you there! The show runs March 24, 25, 31, and April 1 at 7:30 pm. For ticket information give us a call at either 962-2151 or 926-8227. Also see Rebas column for a synopsis on the play and a little more on our leading man and lady. * * * |
