Orang Utan - Pongo pygmaeus
. . . Pongo pygmaeus . . .
Orang Utan (Pongo pygmaeus) occur only in Borneo and Sumatra mostly in lowland and swamp forests. Diet includes fruits, young leaves and insects. Usually solitary, the young remains with the mother until 5 to 6 years of age. Forest clearance for agriculture in parts of Borneo displaced many orang-utans. Semi-wild orang-utans in Malaysia can be seen in natural forests of Sepilok Sandakan, Sabah and Semongok near Kuching in Sarawak.
