Okay—so I’m supposed to do a profile on myself. Might as well do

It in the traditional format, eh?

                         ----------------------------------------------------

Real name: Barbara (Babs) Gordon

Eyes: Green (they only LOOK blue, but they’re actually green!)

Hair: Red

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 126 lbs

I was the only daughter born to my mother and father, Thelma and James Gordon (And YES. He’s the Police Commissioner of the city). When I was very young, about age four, my mother died in a car accident and I was left to the care of my father. He’s basically been raising me ever since.

After getting through high school, I attended Gotham University earning my degree in computer science and graduated with honors, I was twenty-one at the time. I went on and took a job with the Gotham Police as a Data analyst. About a year later I was old enough to qualify for a higher position. So I took the basic tests and training and became an officer, which, of course, didn’t last long. I had been shooting for one position in general: Detective. Over the allotted time, I made that position and that’s basically where I stand to this day. Pretty NEAT, huh?

By day (sometimes night, depending on how my shifts run) I work for the Gotham Police Department, but by night, that’s an entirely different story. I secretly fight crime with Batman and his allies within Gotham’s underbelly. Sometimes the super-criminals and/or villains start to get to ya. Some out a reek havoc, but usually through a little hard work and a few cuts and scrapes they’re under control…*usually.*

I first dawned the bat costume when I was still in college. My dad was wrongfully convicted of taking bribes. (He’s NEVER done that in his LIFE before!) There was ‘hardcore’ evidence that even supported him. Gil Mason, an ex boyfriend of mine, came to my door one night. “I’m sorry Barb, but I have to do this…” He showed me the warrant. “I have a warrant for your father’s arrest.” Of course I thought all of this was a joke, but there it was. On paper, in writing. My Dad went to jail on these false charges. Later, there was a rally set up in order to get my father out of prison. I went to Batman and asked him if he would come and just SHOW UP at the rally. “Surely with you being there they’re bond to let Dad out.”
“I’m sorry, Barbara. I don’t have time.” He just. Disappeared after that.  Jerk…

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went home and fashioned a Bat costume of my own, took some rope with me and went to my father’s rally. I appeared as Batman, or so the crowd thought. I did my thing and headed into the alley to change into regular clothes. Suddenly, out of nowhere a car rolled passed and started shooting. As I was making my way for the alley the car speed off and it was right in front of me. They guys in the car started shooting. That’s when I used my gymnastic skills and did a double handspring off of the car, to safety. The car kept going and suddenly Robin sprang into action. I guess HE was at the rally to. Small world, huh? Well, he tried to stop the car, but he nearly got ran over in the process. I pushed him out of safety. I got up quickly, but it was already too late. I tried to run, but he grabbed the back of my cowl and my hair… just kinda SHOWED. “You’re a GIRL!??” I ran, to go after the car. Robin stopped me. “Hey, WAIT a minute! You can’t just—“

“There’s NO time!” We planned to head them off from that. We managed to do it and the car crashed into a street pole. Two of the three guys were caught, one got away. I tried to leave the scene before another word could be said, but it was already too late and the press somehow managed to get a picture of this infamous ‘Bat Girl.’

That made headlines the next day! Heh. Would you believe I was on the front page of the Gotham Gazette? Okay, maybe it wasn’t ME, but it was Batgirl anyway. While I was at the Police Station talking with my father, I took it upon myself to do a little research. I remembered that one guy who go away and started looking through pictures to see if he was a criminal or.. WHATEVER. I found him moments later, wrote the name down and headed straight over to Gil’s. When I got there, I told him I was coming over to “see how he was doing”, but then I SAW him. It was the guy who got away and he was sitting on Gil’s couch! I somehow realized that Gil could have something to do with all of this and I told him I’d see him later. I left about as quickly as I came. I had to go to someone I could trust, but I really couldn’t talk to anyone at the time.

I waited for nightfall and I put on my Bat costume again and went out. I ‘swung’ myself over to Police HQ but got tackled by Robin. He was on TOP of me and… he was SOOOOO cute, you wouldn’t even BELIEVE it! “Miss me?” he asked.

I could only smile to that comment. I pushed him off and got back to my feet.

“What are you doing here? Don’t you know you could get yourself KILLED!??” This went on and on for a minute. Frankly, with him carrying on like that I knew the boy had a few bats short of a belfry.

“You want me to leave? YOU want me to leave? Okay!”
He was surprised with my cooperation. “Uhhh. Okay. Thanks. Now make sure you go home and get some REST. This is no place for a lady.”

“Uh huh.. Goodbye, Robin.” I left! But I really wasn’t…. I was going to a bit more research someplace else.

As time went on I found out that Two-Face and my boyfriend Gil really WAS behind all of this. With a bit of videotape evidence and a grueling battle against the bad guys and the good guys (Batman, Robin, and I) our efforts paid off. After saving the both of their LIVES, I was kinda ‘accepted’ into their little clan. Soon my Dad was released and all of the charges were dropped.

From that point on, I continued to keep the costume and adopted the name “Batgirl” for all of my efforts of ‘good’ that I’ve done.
