Preface

This document is the publication of theories for breeding purebred canine champion dynasties. It is based on observations of breeding techniques of many kennels in the production of generations of Champions, Siegers, Best in Specialty Show winners and other purebred dogs of competitive titled acclaim.

The reason I am producing this document is three fold:
1). To gether information that will assist me in producing better dogs, establish my own kennel line, bloodling and eventually my own strain of Great Danes (God willing and grants to me a long life),
2). To maintain documentation of my thoughts in breeding based on my observations (a repository of my findings),
3). To pass to others the information I have gathered over the years, so that they - through this mentorship can make some contribution to their selected breed and their own breeding program.

Though I have been breeding purebred dogs for over 4 decades when I began this work, I believe I have yet much to learn about breeding dogs in general. Though I have prodced champions and specialty winners in the past, this has not been due to any theory of breeding I developed; but, rather by chance of the selection of breeding pairs available at the time and an abundence of excellent specimen made available to me by dedicated breeders.

Therefore, this book is being dedicated to my mentors in dog breeding over the years. First I would like to dedicate the book to Miss Veronica Tudor-Williams of Surrey England's "Of the Congo" kennels. She was the founder of one of the Basenji breeds oldest kennel. Miss Tudor-Williams exhibited great patience with me as a young boy in my ambitions to become a top dog breeder. She faithfully answered every letter with loving care and shared her wisdom openly and honestly. She was one of Dogdoms Grandest Ladies and I was fortunate to have had her in my live. She personally brought out of Africa's Congo region Fula of the Congo, the progenitor of the line I bred when I first starting breeding. The number of champions around the world that owe their existence to this lady and that one dog is almost incomprehensible. Few dogs will ever have such an impact on one breed. And few people will ever have such an impact on me as did Miss Tudor-Williams. God bless you and bring great peace and joy to your rest.

Secondly I wish to dedicated this book to Mrs. Shirley Chambers of Altoona Pa. "Khajah" Kennels. Mrs Chambers spent many evening and last nights talking with me over the telephone while I was in college. Helping me to understand breeding concepts and bloodlines. Later, was a breeding and handling partner. She taught me the true meaning of Sportmanship in the Dog Ring and outside of it as well. I am glad to have been able to call her friend. With her Am.Ch. FulaFlashy of the Congo and her descendants we bred many champions together. Then with Am. Ch. Sir Datar of Horsley we established the black and white Basenjis in the U.S.A. Mrs. Chambers produced over 150 homebred Basenji champions and I am proud of the small part I played in her success. But, even more grateful for the part she played in my life and the success of my breeding program.

Thirdly I wish to dedicate this book to Ms. Kay Finch of California's "Crown Crest" Afgan and Saluki kennel. Ms Finch spent much time with me ringside at many shows around the country, pointing out good judging techniques and how best to conduct myself as an aspiring Purebred Dog Judge. Her patience was a blessings and advice unforgetable. Without her advice my success as a Saluki breeder would not have been so sweet. My Am. BISS Ch. Alsijil's Aruna CalisVara always brought a smile to her face as he gracefully moved across the ring, she knew I dedicated every win to her. I can never repay Ms. Finch for her loving assistence to me; but, with every owner/handler I mentor, I hope mirror her kindness.

Finally, I wish to dedicate this book to my mentor and friend Mrs. Barbara Rettig of Germany's "Liberte" kennels. Mrs. Rettig has stayed by me through very good and bad times. Unselfishly giving of her wisdom and experience. I can truthfully say that I would not know anything about German Great Dane breeding if it had not been for her dedication in mentoring me. I thank you Barbara for believing in me and allow me to have my foundation female Kismet Alsijil Liberte. I thank God for sending Barbara to be my mentor, my friend and my guide.

These women have been an inspiration to me, as dedicated to their breeds and dogdom as a whole, they have guided my path to practically all I know of breeding and showing dogs.
