LNA Newsletter - Winter 1997
Dear friends,
Julley, and greetings from all of us here, nestled in the heart of the Himalayan mountains. We are happy to report to you that the first year of our existence is coming to an end and many inspiring moments have unfolded, setting a foot path for the years ahead. It is important for us to keep you informed on all that has happened and to also let you know of our future plans. We hope that all of you are happy and well as we approach the winter months.
Outlook on Nunneries
This year, we have visited many of the nunneries throughout Ladakh and Zangskar. A full report will be made available next year, but some progress has already been made. There is still a lot of work to be done to develop the living conditions and the teaching facilities. We are planning to make Chulichan Nunnery at Redzong the main training center for all the nunneries.
Visitors to Ladakh
Summer visitors from around the globe continually showed their support. They came mainly from Europe, and it was a great pleasure to see such enthusiastic interest that they have shown in our new association and projects. We are extremely thankful to all who have brought many useful presents such as computers, equipment for collecting herbs, big tents for the Amchi project, and so on. We are also thankful for the gracious proposals of sponsorships for the education of the young nuns. A very warm and special thanks to all!
Office Facility
We have moved into a new office on Fort Road in Leh, opposite the Indian Airlines office.
Hoping to Utilize Our Natural Resources
The Nuns Association is taking a great interest in using Solar Energy to improve the living conditions of nuns in the remote nunneries. We are looking for sponsors for portable Solar Water Heaters which can be used in the winter also. Cost: Rs.1000; and Solar Ovens (big family size) Cost: Rs.3000 or US$83. In time, we are hoping to install Solar Cookers which feed up to a hundred people, invented and manufactured by a Swiss expert in India (also Leh). Cost: Rs.50,000 or US$1,400.
