| A GIG REPORT : Caribia 31.12.2003 |

| Hanoi Rocks played a great gig in Caribia on new years eve. The first songs were from the new album "Twelve shots on the rocks", including atleast Obscured; Delirious; People like me; A day late, A dollar short and Whatcha want. Then it was time for the hired gun on 2nd guitarist, Sir Lombard to thank the crowd and step off the stage. The audience went totally crazy when Michael Monroe introduces the guest star: "Nasty Suicide!!". A moment of pure gold for all the fans who had expected this for years. Then the gig "really started" (allthough the first part alone was probably the best rock n' roll you can hear in Finland) Oriental beat; Up Around the bend; Tragedy: I feel Allright; Taxi Driver; and most likely some others, I was way too excited to remember everything about the gig, but I can assure you I wasn't alone. So was it worth all the talk and rumours and gossips? YES and by far better that anyone could have expected. Nasty looked healthy and moved around the stage looking very energetic. Andy and Michael were clearly happy about the situation, and Monroe did ask the crowd would we like to see Nasty as a guitarist of Hanoi Rocks permanently? I guess I don't have to tell you the shouting that took place at that time.. But Nasse has confirmed it was a GUEST appearance so I guess we'll ahve to let him go. Most touching moment for me was Don't you ever leave, and it's solos, which Andy and Nasse played once again like they did back in the "good old days"..Magical! So what about our rhytm section? Timpa did seem to be at first a bit lost with the new situation, but did recover quickly and in the end it looked like He would have played with the boys allready in the 80's. Lacu had wrapped some sort of red lights around his drums, and in every way he rocked! During "Whatcha want", if I remeber correctly he threw about 10 drumstick high in the air, over the scene behind him, but I didn't notice it would have effected his playin, it was rough as always! Occasionally standing on top of his drums, occasionally swinging sparklers, and of course the water spilled on his drums, so that it looked like he'd be playing in the rain..Could it have been more amazing? No. But this is my point of view of the gig..but I kind of got the feeling I wasn't alone. |
