Lactancia Moderna

Thanks to New Beginnings' Magazine Information!

No hay leyes en Puerto Rico que protejan la lactancia materna.

There are not laws in Puerto Rico that protect breastfeeding. I received a letter from the federal Court in Puerto Rico where I live, telling me that I have to serve for jury duty. There are no breastfeeding laws in Puerto Rico that protect us, I was in shock!!! I am a breastfeeding mother who is responsible for the daily care of my three children: Hilton, Gretel and Carla and not employed outside the home.

I enjoy been a full-time mother, I still breastfeeding my last toddler Carla and don't want any unnecessary artificial weaning. That's when I remember in one New Beginnings magazine (Nov-Dec. 1994) I have read a feature story "Breastfeeding Legislation in the United States" that I later found to be very helpful ccnc I topy and to them: the Iowa Jury Duty Legislation that excluded mothers of Breastfed children who are responsible for the daily care of the child and not regularly employed outside the home.

(Iowa House File 2350, seventy- fifth General Assembly 1994, Iowa Advance Legislative Service contains regarding).
What a surprise for me to know the next week the federal Court in Puerto Rico decided to call my father for jury duty instead of me. So I have to thanks with all my heart La Leche League and New Beginnings Magazine that once again have save my breastfeeding relationship with one of my children.
