CITY OF LACONIA MOTORCYCLE WEEK ADVISORY COMMITTEE

ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING-JUNE 3, 2003-7:00 P.M.

 

CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Fraser called the meeting to order on the above date and time.

 

ENABLING ACT:  City Council Resolution of November 12, 2002

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Jim Baird, Peter Brunette, Sharon Fleischman, James Joyal, Linda Peary, and Brenda Schmucker

 

MEMBER ABSENT: Richard Heinis

 

ELECTION OF OFFICERS:

Chairman-Peter Brunette

Vice-Chairman-James Joyal

Secretary-Sharon Fleischman

 

MISSION STATEMENT:  Reviewed by Mayor Fraser with the committee

 

1.      Look objectively at the event and its impact on the City’s public relations and

Infrastructure.

       

2.      Determine whether or not it is in the City’s best interest to assume responsibility

for the event.

        

3.      Determine whether or not the length of the event should be changed.

 

4.      Examine ways to create a better working relationship with business involved in  

the event.

 

5.      Examine funding alternatives for costs associated with city, county and state

      agencies involved with the event.

 

 

RIGHT TO KNOW LAW (NH RSA 91-A)-Reviewed by Mayor Fraser  

     

1.      Public Meetings- dates will be posted at the library and at City Hall

2.      Quorum-4 members

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

1.      MOTORCYCLE WEEK 2003

 

Discussion:

 

Brenda Schmucker suggested the committee gather information about other motorcycle events and speak to those who attend at the Race and Rally tent.

 

Jim Baird was interested in how much the state receives from Motorcycle Week. 

 

Peter Brunette suggested that that the committee observe and ask questions      during Motorcycle Week of those who attend as well as the merchants. 

 

Examples:         How often do you come?

                       How long do you stay?

                       Why do you come?

 

Jim Joyal suggested that interested committee members gather information during bike week. He also suggested inviting businesses to our meetings and getting information from the citizens.

 

Motions:

 

1.      Jim Joyal moved that we ask the city manager to invite a committee representative to the debriefing meeting after the event.  Seconded by Jim Baird.  Motion unanimously passed

 

2.      Jim Joyal moved that a committee member accompany enforcement officers when they make inspections.(Police dept., fire dept., code enforcer) Seconded by Jim Baird.  Motion unanimously passed.  Motion amended unanimously to obtain permission from the City Manager in order to perform bike week duties.

 

Discussion:  Jim Joyal stated that he would like to accompany the officers.

August 28, 2003

 

ADJOURNMENT:  Jim Joyal moved to adjourn.  Jim Baird seconded.  Meeting adjourned at 8:38 P.M.
