Los Angeles Chinese
Musicians Ensemble Chorus
|
Organized in summer of 1997 when the southern California Chinese
communities were celebrating the return of Hong Kong to China,
the Los Angeles Chinese Musicians Ensemble Chorus (LACMEC) was
formally established in August 1997. LACMEC aims to create a
chorus with a superior quality in order to enrich the cultural
activities of Chinese communities and the American main stream
society, and to promote communication and exchange among diverse
cultures.
With emphasis on performing various Chinese folk songs and contemporary
Chinese choral works, LACMEC's program has covered choral masterpieces
from all over the world. Since its birth, LACMEC has successfully
presented over sixty performances in the Southern California
region. In 2002, LACMEC participated in the annual Hollywood
Bowl Easter Sunrise Services as the first Chinese choir ever
in the event's eighty-year history. And besides its own annual
concert and two joint Christmas concerts, LACMEC also participated
in the 4th International Chorus Festival hosted by the Los Angeles
Founder's Church, and had a special performance at the United
Nation Day celebration hosted by the Mayor's Office of the City
of Los Angeles. |
