Rules and Regulations
*REQUIREMENTS*

One book report (mandatory written book report on any form of dance.)
This book report is not limited to Modern or Ballet.Due dates on calendar!

Students must see at least three live dance programs for the entire school
year.

(Modern or Ballet) Prepare a one page analysis of the program to turn in on or before the due date.

Students will not receive late credit for late concert reports.

All reports must be turned into Kim ONLY, and will be checked off
by her. All teachers will receive an updated check off list as the
reports are turned in, prior to each grading period.
*DRESS*
This is not optional. All students must dress everyday whether you participate or not. If you forget your dancewear you may check out dancewear from the office and return them the next day CLEAN. You may also purchase the items. Please go early enough, so you will not be tardy to class, creating another problem.

*First Time*:
- Student will be sent to dance office, where you will check out
dancewear and return to class. Parent will be notified by phone
immediately. Information logged in book. Participation in class if
late is at teacher's discretion. Students can do extra credit to clear,
(an additional book report). However you must clear within two
weeks(fourteen days).

*Second Time*
- Student will be sent to dance office, where you will check out
dancewear and return to class. Parents will be called and
notified. This will be a warning explaining to parent, student once
again did not bring dance clothes. He/She will be placed on
Arts/Discipline Probation if this happens again. A note will go
home as well. Student can do extra credit to clear. (an additional
book report). However, you must clear within two weeks (fourteen
days). Participation in class, if late, is at teacher's discretion. This
may affect grade.

*Third Time*:
- Student now must go directly to Vice-Principal, Ms Huber. Ms
Hunter, the program specialist, will be notified. If student has not
made an effort to clear record, student will be placed on
Arts/Discipline Probation. Parent will be notified by phone and mail.
Student's grade will be affected and activity participation rights will be
jeopardized.
****STUDENTS WHO REFUSED TO DRESS FOR ANY REASON WILL BE SENT
IMMEDIATLY TO THE PROGRAM SPECIALIST AND MAY BE PLACED ON
ARTS/DISCIPLINE PROBATION****
*TARDENESS RULES*
- *First*: speak to student, give warning.
- *Second*: Student sent to office for tardy note. Info will be logged in role
book. (Teacher decides whether student will participate in class activity or
special assignment).
- *Third*: courtesy call to parent expressing concern will take place.
- *Fourth/Last Warning*: Student is sent to attendance office for tardy note.
(Teacher decides whether student will participate in class activity or special
assignment.) Parent will be notified a second time and explained that the
student is nearing Arts/Attendance Probation.
- *Fifth/Final*: Student is sent to office for tardy note and placed on
Arts/Attendance Probation. (activity rights for class may be jepordized.)
Parent notified.
****TARDINESS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND MAY RESULT IN ARTS AND ATTENDANCE PROBATION, JEOPARDIZING YOUR ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION SUCH AS MASTER LESSONS AND PERFORMANCES. STUDENTS MAY BE PLACED ON ARTS PROBATION AFTER FIVE UNEXCUSED TARDIES.
*Un-Excused Absences*
- *First Time*:
- Attendance office must be notified immediately. Student must be sent to
office for truancy note.
- Parent must be notified immediately by phone and logged.
- Information logged in teacher's role book, and Kim's master bubble sheet.
- Teacher will decide on project assignment to help raise daily grade.
- *Second Time*:
- Attendance office must be notified immediately. Student is sent to office
for truancy note.
- Student at this time must be warned of nearing Arts/Attendance
probation.
- Parent notified by phone and in writing of same information.
- Information logged in teacher's role book, and Kim's master bubble sheet.
- Teacher will decide on project assignment to help raise daily grade.
- *Third Time*:
- Student is sent to Attendance office and placed on Arts and
Attendance Probation.
- All activity rights for class may be jeopardized, (master lessons, field
trips, performance opportunities, etc.).
- Parent is notified. Information logged in teacher's role book, and with
Kim.
- Teacher will decide on project assignment to help raise grade.
- Grade may be dropped one letter.
NORMAL SCHOOL ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES ARE REQUIRED, PLUS THE FOLLOWING:
Dance classes start promptly at 1:20 pm, ends at 4:00 pm. All Mat Classes, 1:10 pm.
Please no street shoes, food or drinks in P.E.128 and King Hall Studios.
Water is allowed.
Probation Rules (refer to Student Handbook or speak to Valerie Huber)
Students, please refer to Legal Attendance Hand Book.
If a student was absent and has followed the proper procedures for
clearance, you will not be penalized, however, you will need to:
- Provide the teacher with make-up assignments (please see me).
Behavior Expectations
Not abiding by class rules may cause activity rights for class to become jeopardized,(master lessons, field trips, performance opportunities, ext.) as well as grade.
I expect all students to:
- arrive on time
- be dressed in proper dress code uniform
- sign-in
- participate in every class activity
- not to talk while class is in session, unless discussing class
activity
- be respectful to all students and teachers
- execute best work
- not leave early
- turn in written assignments on time
- maintain A or B grade in Arts Area (Dance).
Grading
Students are expected to receive A or B in the Int/Adv/Ensemble Modern Technique
classes. This means students must be in attendance, participating, discipline and
committed to the Dance Program. Any student receiving any grade or behavior below
expectations, results in Arts Probation. If the behavior does not improve, the student is
subject to return to their home school.
Participation 40%:
- Being in class on time
- Dressed
- Actively involved
- Understanding of movement
- Execution of movement
- Articulate movement/vocabulary
- Expression of movement
Commitment 30%:
- Being available
- Working to fullest ability
- Being prepared for class activity
- Respectful to peers/teacher/staff
- Honesty/Integrity
Development 20%:
- Improvement in technique
- Growth in performance
- Musicality
- Creativity
- Exploring aesthetics of movement
- Clarity in execution of movement
- Emotional expression
Written 10%:
- Turning work in on time
- Ability to express thoughts,
feelings, and description of movement
on paper.
Failure to meet the above requirements:
- Grade may be affected.(lowered)
- May result in student being placed on Probation.
- Student may loose activity rights, such as master lessons, field trips, and
performance opportunities.
