| Cyndi Goes GOLD!! June 6, 2002 Capitol My World, the debut album from Cyndi Thomson has been certified gold (signifying sales of 500,000 albums) by the Recording Industry Association of America. "When you hear news like that, all you can say is 'Wow!' It's exciting and flattering to know that so many people went out and bought the album..or maybe everyone in my hometown of Tifton, Georgia bought 35 copies each! Seriously, this has been a wonderful year, and while opening for artists like Trisha Yearwood and Alan Jackson gave me a great opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people, it was country radio that believed in my music enough to take me to the fans in the first place. Their support made all the difference," says Thomson. Thomson made an immediate impression on country music fans with the release of her first single, "What I Really Meant To Say." It held the top spot on the country singles sales chart for eight consecutive weeks, and stayed at #1 on the radio airplay charts for three consecutive weeks. Critics also hailed the song and album, and Thomson was singled out as a breakthrough country artist in such publications as People, Entertainment Weekly, and The Washington Post, among others. This year she received an ACM nomination as Top New Female Vocalist, and the video of "What I REally Meant To Say" won a Billboard Music Video Award as Best New Country Clip. "The songs from My World connect with a new generation of country music fans, says Capitol Records' V.P. of Sales, Bill Kennedy. "Cyndi is without a doubt one of the bright young talents in music today. We're looking forward to a long successful career for her here at Capitol Records." "It is very exciting to have a new artist achieve this kind of success in the current environment. In the past year Cyndi has received critical acclaim for her music, graced the pages of major publications, and appeared on national television shows. The public has now embraced her artistry and delivered a Gold album. We are very proud of this accomplishment and we are looking forward to platinum." says Mike Dungan, President and CEO. Thomson co-wrote eight of the eleven songs on My World. Her current single is "I'm Gone". She is nominated for two CMT Flameworthy Video Music awards which will be handed out live on CMT Wednesday, June 12th. |
