| ANOTHER CAREER FIRST FOR CYNDI Cyndi Thomson made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry this past weekend. While backstage waiting for her name to be called, Opry star, Jim Ed Brown, asked Cyndi backstage how she was doing. Cyndi told him exactly how she was feeling, "I feel like I'm gonna puke." Jim reassured her not to worry and that he would be ther for her personally no matter what happened. Once on stage, Cyndi felt right at home. She performed an acoustic version of her hit single, "What I Really Meant To Say," along with another song from her debut album, MY World, and the audience even sang along. | CYNDI THOMSON-ON HER WAY TO STARDOM Cyndi Thomson has had a taste of success with her debut single, "What I Really Meant To Say," off her album My World released this week. Sometimes, however, the road to stardom can be a confusing one, so that's why Cyndi keeps a journal. "I don't want to miss anything," she says. She believes that life is made up of a series of moments and special care should be taken to record those moments. Cyndi't life has been so hectic lately that she sometimes even forgets where she is. "I'm so focused on what's going on around me. Other times I have to ask somebody where I am, because you can get lost being this busy," she says. Let's hope that Cyndi can take some time to realize and record this moment in her journal. |
| Cyndi Newton-John During a recent, rare night off, Cyndi Thomson and friends and most of her band and crew hit a Nashville nightspot and tore up the karaoke scene. The highlight reportedly was Cyndi's duet with her banleader on the John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John hit from the movie "Grease" - "You're The One That I Want." Also look for a photo and story on Cyndi in the September 10 issue of Time magazine in the "People" section. |
| NEWS-CYNDI THOMSON CELEBRATES A NUMBER ONE COUNTRY HIT 10/12/2001 Cyndi Thomson celebrated the Number One success of her debut single "What I Really Meant To Say" at a party in Nashville on Friday (October 12). Before the party, Thomson talked with LAUNCH about how her life has changed since her album, My World, was released in summer. "A lot has changed," she siad. "People sometimes recognize me, which is really funny cause I don't feel any different at all, so I kind of giggle about that. My parents and sisters-they are just so proud of me. I am able to see them more and they see me more because they can see me on TV or listen to me on the radio. So,they don't miss me as much." Thomson learned that the song had topped Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart while she was signing autographs for a group of little girls after a show one night. The career milestone is still hard for the singer to comprehend. She said, "I don't know if it hit me right away, I still don't think it has. I really do feel like I've been thrown into this tornado. It's a pleasant one, it's just hard to stop and smell the roses sometimes. Jo Dee Messina did send me flowers though, which was really sweet. They were really pretty and I would have never guessed in a million years that they were from her. But she's so thoughtful." Thomson is currently on the road as part of Messina's Burn Tour. |
| WORLD CLASS Newcomer Cyndi Thomson is being hailed as one of the brightest new stars to come from Nashville in quite some time. The 24-year-old Georgia native first appeared on the charts in May with her debut single, "What I Really Meant To Say." The song has become one of the year's biggest-selling country singles. It topped Billboard's country singles sales chart for several weeks this summer and reached No. 1 on the airplay charts in September. USA Today called the tune "the most refreshing thing on country radio." Cyndi's My World album, released July 31 on Capitol Nashville has become the best-selling debut by a female country artist in the past five years (LeAnn Rimes is the only female artist with a more successful debut disc-Blue-in the past 10 years). Expect more good things to come from this sweet and sincere singer-songwriter. |
