Xena stood by the window looking out. People were milling about everywhere, the festivities keeping the town busy. Her bard was some where down there, shopping away their dinars, but surely getting the most out of them. She should be with her, making sure was safe but the conversation with Ephiny a few days ago had rattled her to the core, now here she stood afraid.

"Gabrielle knows." Ephiny had confessed.

"How?"

Ephiny walked away, afraid of Xena's reaction, afraid to face her. She sighed deeply. She had betrayed her friend's trust. "When we were catching up with each other's lives, we got into a debate about love and life and I blurted it out."

Ephiny felt Xena walked up behind her and stood still, waiting for a sword to run her through, the pinch thing, or any one of her friend's lethal methods. But she heard the warrior retreat and she breathed a sigh in relief. When she turned around, Xena was sitting by the fire, looking at the floor, her face hidden by the hands that now covered her face.

"What did she say?" She asked quietly. Pain clearly evident in her voice.

"She didn't say anything. She just looked at me funny and walked away."

That had been 3 days ago. Gabrielle still had said nothing.

Hades, it wasn't supposed to be this way. She had always imagined that perhaps one day, the bard would learn to love her. Xena closed her eyes.

"Xena, what are we going to do today?" Gabrielle said huskily, wrapping her arms around the warrior's neck.
"Ah, my little Brie, today I will spend the whole day kissing you." A slow melting kiss. "Tasting you." Lips traveled slowly down a smooth neck ending in a nip which drew out a whimper. "And making sweet passionate love to you 'til you can't remember anything but my name." Xena swept Gabrielle off the floor, both moaning in unison. "I'm going to run my hands all over your body. I want to feel you writhing underneath me. Feel the pain and pleasure of your nails as they rake down my back." Gabrielle shivered in anticipation, gasping at the verbal assault.

Xena heard the door. She couldn't let this go on like this. As much as she hated talking, she was going to have to draw this out.

"How long are you going to wait before you say something." She blurted out before she lost her resolve. Xena heard sudden silence. The bustling of packages stopped, the stream of words she barely heard abruptly ending.

"I don't have anything to say." Gabrielle spoke softly.

Xena closed her eyes. The sounds started up again, telling her that the bard was settling down the rest of her wares. The pain of hearing that her feelings weren't returned enveloped her like a black shroud. There had always been a slim possibility, a chance, a glimmer of hope. Now there was nothing but the plain truth.

"Does it bother you?" Xena heard Gabrielle sit on the bed. She could picture her in deep concentration. A cute crinkle on her forehead.

"I don't know. I'm not sure what to think. I don't know if it was my fault... did I lead you on? Now simple things have taken on a whole new meaning. I'm choosing to ignore it until I can figure it out."

Xena looked at the full moon, for once wishing a god would come to help her out.

"You know I'd never do anything to hurt you."

"Then why?"

"Why what?"

"Why did you fall in love with me? Why sacrifice ruining our friendship? Why didn't you tell me you .... me.... uh!" Gabrielle grunted in frustration. "I thought you had been in love with Marcus. I never thought you liked...." Again she faded.

"My love for Marcus has nothing to do with this. I never meant to fall in love with you. What I feel for you is stronger than anything I've ever felt for anyone else." Xena said kinda defensively. "You think it's easy for me? Do you know how hard it is to love someone who doesn't love you back?" Xena turned around. Her eyes clearly showing pain. "Afraid you'd see it in my eyes, or feel it in my touch. Terrified that you'd leave my side when you found out!" The tears were now flowing freely. She walked over and not so gently grabbed Gabrielle by the shoulders ducking her head to look into beautiful green eyes. "You do what you have to do. I will understand whatever choice you make."

Xena quickly strode out of the room, the tension becoming too much. As the door closed behind her, she leaned against the wall of the hallway, unable use her legs anymore. 'Hades, that did not go well at all. This was not how I had imagined this conversation would go.

Xena straightened up when she heard the door open slowly and saw Gabrielle poke her head out. Startling blue eyes locked on to green ones.

"Come back in." Gabrielle took Xena's hand and led her to the bed to sit her down. She knelt in front of the darker woman, resting her arms on strong thighs. "Xena." She began hesitantly. "We've gone through so much, I won't let this come between us if you won't. I love you. Nothing's going to change that." Gabrielle looked down and played with her fingers. "We can work through this." A long pause. "I'd like to stay with you."

The younger woman lifted up her head with so much hope on her face it broke Xena's heart . She gently cupped Gabrielle's face and softly kissed her lips then she hugged the smaller body tight.

"Thank you." Xena whispered. After a long moment they broke apart and gave each other loving smiles. "Come on. Let's get to bed. We have an early start tomorrow and we all know how easily it is to wake you up." Gabrielle giggled and swatted her softly.

After they had gotten ready and were climbing into bed....

"Hey, can I trust you to keep your hands off my beautiful body?" Gabrielle said with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes and deliberately stretched, arching her body.

Xena rolled her eyes. "Yes, I think I can keep my wicked ways to myself." She paused briefly. "But.... I don't think I want to." Xena lunged at Gabrielle and proceeded to tickle her mercilessly. Xena laughed as Gabrielle squealed in delight. Finally they settled down, both breathing heavy from their playing.

"How long have you been in love with me?" Gabrielle asked timidly, long after they had quieted down.

"For as long as I can remember."

"Does this mean you have dirty thoughts about me?" The bard questioned, her voice full of amusement.

"Gabrielle!" Xena snorted. "I can't believe you asked me that. Go to sleep." Xena turned over, feeling a blush on her face. Gods, if she only knew half the things I've thought about. The warrior closed her eyes and smiled as she pictured a favorite scene....

I walk into a tavern full of beautiful women, all eyes turning to us instantly. I take great pleasure from Gabrielle's arm firmly wrapped around my waist, ownership has been established. Intense sexual energy fills the air, the music playing is nice and slow, a pulsing steady beat, creating erotic images in my mind. I let the rumble of the thumping course through me, igniting my darker exotic side, a sensual road to passion.

Turning Gabrielle around, I pick her up to feel strong legs wrapping around my waist. My lips are on fire, and only she can quench the flames. Carrying my precious bard, I head over and gently lay her down on a big table that's almost in the center of the room, empty, as if it had been left that way just for us. I look up and survey the room, smugly I smile as I see envy on every woman's face. Gabrielle is mine! I look back down to see Gabrielle looking back at me with lust-filled eyes.

She controls me as I climb on the table and lower myself to give my Gabrielle a searing kiss. I hear us both moan as we move together. I travel down her neck, sucking and biting. She tastes so good! I quake as I feel Gabrielle wrap her hands around my hair, pulling me down harder. I feel lust commanding her. She wants me.

My hands begin to unlace Gabrielle's top off. I chuckle as I hear soft murmurs from the appreciative onlookers. I smile with pride, Gabrielle belongs to me, and she is perfection. I quickly forget our admirers and dive in, losing myself to the soft creaminess of her breasts, her scent, her taste. I caress my way down her muscled body and hoist up her skirt. I feel Gabrielle shudder in anticipation and tremble when she gladly opens her legs for me, oblivious and uncaring to the fact that everyone is looking.

"You are so wet!" I whisper in her ear, knowing how much my voice turns her on. I moan with her as I happily cloak my fingers in warm wet velvet sensations. We begin to move in sync with the beat of the music. Her hands are grabbing, touching, and pinching me deliciously. Her lips and tongue are bathing me in love. She knows what I like.

Once again I look up, barely surprised to see the women around the room looking, gyrating to the music, moving with us. Some are touching themselves, others have turned to each other, we are their inspiration.

"Harder Xena." I hear Gabrielle plead, softly, urgently. I look back down to see the look of pure ecstasy on her face and kiss her passionately, drowning in her sweet taste, urged by her moans, inspired by her scent. She makes me forget where we are. I know only her, my desire to please her completely consuming me. The music picks up as if on cue and we match the tempo. My head is filled with our moans, the music, our smells. I revel in the power emanating from the woman beneath me and it's intoxicating.

"Helloooo????? Xenaaaaaaa???????"

"Huh?" Xena answered, startled. She felt Gabrielle leaning over her.

"Where did you just go? I've been talking to you for several minutes."

Xena was glad Gabrielle couldn't see the blush she probably had. "What's the matter?" She asked in a shaky voice.

"I asked you if you were mad at me for not feeling the same way."

"Of course not. I never really thought you would. It's just something else I have to deal with, Gabrielle, don't worry about it." 'Yes, just something else.' Xena thought. "Go to sleep Gabrielle. We can talk some more tomorrow if you still want to." 'Hades, life was never going to be the same.' Xena thought grumpily. She rolled over onto on her back and stared at the ceiling. Blond hair and green eyes came into view.

"You know, I think I can learn to ..uh... you know.. the same way you like me." The bard whispered to her.

"Gabrielle, I don't want you to learn....."

"Shhh."

Xena felt a light warm caress on her lips from shy fingertips.

"I know what you're going to say. But the truth is, when you just kissed me....... I kinda ....liked it.

A very long quiet pause.

"You did?"

"Yeah." Gabrielle exhaled, afraid and excited at what was happening, at what she was saying.

Xena raised herself to lean on her elbows, and her eyes adjusted to the dark, able to see her love's faint outline. "Can I kiss you again?" The warrior breathlessly asked, the moment becoming too much. In the darkness, she saw Gabrielle slowly nod. Her heart beat harder as her first wish was about to come true.
