Avon's Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk

This is from my friend Karen at work. She is hoping to take part in a 3-day walk to benefit breast cancer research. In order to participate, she has to get pledges of at least $1,900. This charity is not eligible for our company's gift matching program so she has to raise it all herself (Last year her boss weaseled $500 out of the company by browbeating HER boss -- it was this donation that allowed Karen to participate in an event that is very important to her. Without it, she wouldn't have made the minimum pledge amount. But that manager is no longer with the company, so Karen is on her own this year). Pledges are not per mile, but are a flat rate (whatever you want to give) for the whole 60 miles ....and Karen WILL make all of them!!

Hi Everyone, I need your help again. I know you have helped me in the past and as my friend Avery says, "Your good intentions are killing my wallet". She said this last year as she was writing out her very generous check (which I know she will do again this year). I am doing the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk again this year...yes it was hard but it was the most important, rewarding and challenging thing I have ever done in my life. I need your very generous financial support I need to raise $1,900 by August. I have begun my training but I need to be more prepared than last year. I trained on flat ground. I forgot Bear Mountain truly is a mountain, a big one at that. We will be walking September 21st - 23rd from Bear Mountain to Manhattan. Beyond making a difference, the 3-Day is spectacular. We enjoy meaningful, funny, sad,powerful conversations with friends and strangers. Three days that begin in Bear Mountain and go all the way to Manhattan on foot along some of New York's most scenic trails. We will spend two nights under the stars peeking through the blackness of the open sky above......not really. It's just a sea of tents with the sounds of snoring people and tent zippers opening and closing all night with everyone running to the port-a-potty. Yes, the port-a-potty, for that alone you should all add extra $$ donation. The net proceeds from the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day will fund non-profit breast health programs, programs that provide support services for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and cutting-edge medical research on breast cancer. The Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day is one activity of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, which began in 1993 as an initiative of Avon Products, Inc. The mission of the Crusade is to provide medically under-served women with direct access to breast cancer early-detection and support services, and to fund medical research to find the causes of and a cure for breast cancer and other women's cancers. Since the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade began, revolutionary advances have been made in the study of biology and the development of technologies now being applied to the eradication of breast cancer.
