Robert had come to America in 1632, probably to Roxbury. He was a freeman
in Roxbury Mar 4, 1635. He was at Boston in 1644. Susanna and he were married
in England when Robert was using an alias, John Black. The two reported
husbands of Susanna Selbee were the same person.

Susanna was reportedly married first to John Black. Later information clears
this up by reporting John Black used an alias, Robert Blott after he came to
America and both Robert and Susanna were only married once.

Torrey states George died in 1648. Savage says "In Geneal. Reg. II 383 is an
abstract of his will, made 28 May and proved 30 Oct 1643, giving holdings and
land to wife Ann for life, and providing for children John, James, and Ann and
two grandchildren. He was originally from So. Elmham, Suffolk County, England.
He was freeman 5/10/1643; townsman 11-19-1638 and "granted to have that acre
of ground at Spectakell Island which was passed over to him by Graham Smith
June 19, 1640"; admitted to church 9-12-1641.

and Newton". Munsell says he was born in Derbyshire, England (Vol V, p.177)

Robert Goodale and his family embarked for New England on the ship "Elizabeth"
of Ipswich (William Andrews, Master) in April 1634. In the records of the
port, it is stated he was then thirty years of age. His wife Catherine was
twenty-eight, and of their three children Mary was four, Abraham was two and
Isaac was six months old.
Where the "Elizabeth" landed her passengers is not known, but the Goodales
appeared in Salem, Mass. prior to 1636 living at Great Cove in the North
Fields. The spring, so often mentioned in the early records, in what is now
called Liberty Hill Park, was on Robert Goodale's farm and was known for the
first half-century of Salem's history as Goodale's spring. It is not recorded
how he acquired this farm. In 1636 and 1638 he received grants of twenty acres
each in that portion of town which became known as Salem Village, and he
gradually acquired by purchase similar grants made to the other early
settlers. He eventually owned a tract of land at Bald Hill comprising four
hundred eighty acres, which was confirmed to him by a town grant on Nov. 7,
1651. He probably moved to this land, as he later sold part of his Great Cove
property to his son-in-law, John Smith, in 1658. Another portion was sold to
Nicholas Manning in 1667, with the remainder of the property conveyed to John
Orne in 1684.
Gooddale seems to have devoted his life to the development of his large grant
for the benefits of his sons and daughters, to whom, as they married, he gave
a generous acreage as a wedding gift, thus creating a family settlement around
his own homestead. Although his clear firm handwriting (still available for
examination in Essex County Court archives) seems to indicate a good
education, he took no part in local or broader governmental affairs. His name
seldeom appears in the records in any active capacity except as plaintiff or
defendent in suits based on the ownership of his land or stock.
After the death of his wife, Catherine, Robert Goodale married Margaret
Lazenby of Exeter, with whom he entered into her twelve acres of land , "a new
dwelling house which I doe intend God willing shortly to build" and "two cowes
& a horse or mare fitt for her to ride on." After her death this property was
to go to his son Jacob.
Robert Goodale died between October 12, 1682 and June 27, 1683, the respective
dates of the signing and the proving of his will.

Catherine Killam. She came on the ship "Elizabeth" in 1634.
